If you'll look at the map, I was in the right room which I thought I had cleared.  I was going to move on to the left when a baron and some imps came in through the door.  After fighting them for a bit, I retreated around those boxes and discovered a pain elemental and a lot of lost souls waiting for me, as revenge for City of Skulls I suppose.  I managed to kill the imps and the baron and all the souls, but I was almost dead and the pain elemental was still alive.  I was shotgunning the pain elemental trying to finish the job, but it got into melee range and swiped me a couple of times, killing me.  I should have equipped my shellbox but I didn't expect the fight to last that long.

This was a pretty good run thus far, as well.  I decided not to do a melee build for a change.  I would have gone masterless but I figured I might as well choose Cateye.  Hell's Arena, piece of cake, Chained Court also surprisingly easy considering the trouble I usually have with my berserk running out and getting blown to pieces.  The Wall was a heap of trouble.  First sign something bad would happen was when my tunnel didn't work out very well.  Two barons ended up chasing me out of my corner and it was an open fight from there on.  I eventually salvaged the situation and managed to corner shoot a bit more, but my tunnel was sort of blown to pieces so it didn't work too well.  Phobos Anomaly, I ran past the lost souls and cheesed most of the things at the door.  Some cacodemons got some shots off on me though, as did the Bruiser Brothers.

In Deimos, I found two onyx packs which isn't as good as it sounds really.  I put the second one on blue armor mainly in preparation for Spider's Lair.  Hell's Armory was fairly straightforward, except one of the Arachnotrons somehow escaped all the way to the left end of the map.  Without a melee build, I was kind of floundering to kill the Shambler though, and ended up using a large medpack there, and then grabbing the supercharge afterwards.  Halls of Carnage was sloppy, but with guaranteed supercharge and infinite durability armor I just didn't care.  City of Skulls....  In my opinion, this level is more annoying than the Mortuary.  I used two large medpacks just to get around the initial swarm, but I was being a bit silly there and forgot to equip one of my shellboxes at the beginning.  The agony elemental took about a dozen double shotgun blasts from nearly point-blank range before dying, holy crap.  Then came the disaster level where I died.

My inventory might look a little curious.  I was holding a lot of weapons.  Missile launcher for Mortuary and stuff, BFGs for the same.  Chaingun because I still wanted to save plasma ammo.  Combat shotgun for shotgunny purposes.  Plasma rifle for killing stuff, though I actually only ever fired it on accident in this game.  I'm pretty stingy with plasma cells.  I had the onyx blue for Spider Lair as I said.  Why the melee weapons?  Come on, it's not like I'm going to skip the Unholy Cathedral just because I don't have a melee build...  Plus I had Azrael's Scythe as a goal since I have yet to get it since resetting my player data.  A-modded chainsaw in case I could build a piercing chainsaw, and combat knife if I had to cheese the Angel of Death.  As it turns out, I never got to that point.

Power mods seem like line blocks in Tetris.  Always in demand, never in supply.

I actually considered saving the onyx pack so I could slap it on the next red armor I found, in case I made the tower shield out of one.  But I figured that even if a power mod came up, I'd put it on my chainsaw first because I wanted a fair fight against the Angel of Death over a knife-throwing contest.

My first thought when seeing this was, "Killed by a Pain Elemental?  Not the Lost Souls?  That's got to be a first!"  Then, out of curiosity, I looked back through my own mortems and discovered that I've been killed by Pain Elementals on two occasions!  One on an Angel of Pacifism run of all things, and one on an Angel of Berserk game in which I was trying to take him down with an un-modded Combat Knife.

And I think I'm hoarding when I have 250 on-hand...

Ammo that isn't being used is useless. The more you use it, the more spaces you open up for more ammo or other supplies. The less you use it, the more trouble you might have with enemies, the fewer health packs you might save, the fewer useful things you might be able to carry on...

You probably should have saved the second onyx pack for something else... the onyx blue might be slightly worse in the Lair, if not even with red protection-wise, though it is a little faster.

It may seem like a lot of cells, but in a Mortuary run I can burn through all of it and still not be done.  Granted, with Spider Lair coming up I could easily refill, but I was actually planning on carrying more plasma after that.  Just to be clear, it's not like I was dropping healing items or anything to carry this ammo.  I was just dropping 10mm ammo and shells, my double shotgun, and my then-useless spare armors.
