Building ammo packs
« on: May 13, 2012, 03:39 »

If you can break them apart, you should also know how to build them to begin with, right? Take a bunch of ammo, then build them together into a pack that takes less space and is easier to use, that really shouldn't be too hard. Something a technician could know how to do, no?

Maybe add it as a secondary feature to Scavenger.

It's a good idea. But I would say that it should be avaiable to all classes, but maybe with penalty, so you lose 50% ammo used in the process.
And maybe it should require one point in Whizzkid and Technician's penalty would be 25% instead of 50%.
So to make 100 shell box, you would use 150 and Technician 125.

Or.... maybe bulk mod added to full stack wouldn't be so bad? Maybe with Whizz 2 or something.

Yeah, there wouldn't be much incentive to NOT build a billion ammo boxes. Even if I was losing some ammo to do it. Super-speed reloading is useful enough that I'd be more than happy to lose a little to build boxes.

Take a level in Whizkid, two full ammo stacks, and a bulk mod pack. The last ones, I believe, don't grow enough on trees to make it genuinely overpowered.

I rarely use ammo boxes.

I like the idea about using a bulk mod to make it...that's not bad.

Maybe a bulk to make it AND lose say...10% of ammo involved? That would be a steep cost...maybe 20%.

Who in the first place decided ammo boxes should cut reload time by 80%? Fifty percent or even just 25% would already be pretty major advantages. Anyways, shell boxes are a helpful boost when you find them in the early game and I like it that way. They're special. If building your own ammo boxes from early ammo stacks just became "routine" then I think they'd lose part of their appeal.

For the record, I never understood the purpose of ammo boxes until I came across some relevant posts in this forum. When equipping an ammo box in the prep slot, can the reload time shown in the character information screen be updated properly?

Whats about making other boxes, not a fastern variants, but just 2.5 (or 2) times sized stacks (without loading bonuses)?

Add this feature to some useless perks of each class, or 3rd level, or else.

I think that should we want to incorporate the creation of such ammo boxes, Bulk + Tech mods are both necessary, together with a mandatory loss of some amounts of the underlying ammunition and a 10.0s (100-turn) time to create, possibly offset by Fin traits.  The chief advantages of the ammo boxes are faster reload time and a generally larger stash of ammunition compared to the stack size in the inventory.  These two advantages give weapons paired with the appropriate ammo boxes a ridiculous increase in DPS.

I think that an appropriate sunk cost in creating such ammo boxes would be adequately justified.

But what about making just a larger stacks, without bonus reload speed?

Consuming 3 stacks of ammo to produce one double-sized. Or 2 stacks with Bulk mod.

Engine mechanics aside, this makes even less sense than assembling the ammo box.  Don't forget that for the inventory item list, even the Backpack power-up only increases each stack by 40%.  Using 3 stacks of ammo to produce one double-stack is a horrendous waste of ammunition with little to no benefit -- unless you are playing AoLT (I forgot -- does this exist any more?), there is hardly a problem of not carrying enough ammunition.

What about 500 10mm ammos just to clear level with Gatling\Minigun and so?
