Well...  This run was so promising.  I cleared Phobos Entry without taking damage, I actually didn't have any trouble with the Chained Court, I cleared the level before the Wall without taking any damage despite spawning near a baron/imp pack (thanks to a map), and I nearly cleared the Wall without taking damage when the last baron came at a funny angle and shot me once before dying.  I easily cleared the lost souls in Anomaly, but had more trouble with being surrounded by cacodemons.  I pulled out my missile launcher and missile box to take out the bruiser bros.  I found a napalm launcher and a laser rifle(shame it deals bullet damage in this version, would have thrown my plasma rifle away otherwise).

However I was definitely carrying too many weapons for my own good, but I wanted to keep my assault chaingun and I knew I'd need a shotgun for City of Skulls and other miscellaneous stuff.  For a while I had a double shotgun that I was going to keep for City of Skulls, but I made my biggest mistake when I dumped it for more inventory space.  City of Skulls went well enough until the agony elemental showed up.  My combat shotgun was laughable against it, and my rapid fire weapons let me get swarmed by lost souls.  Eventually I resorted to staff spamming, but that still wasn't enough so I had to use a BFG to finish it off, killing my rewards in the process.  I ate through all 5 of my large med-kits there, plus my regular red armor.

The RNG... it threw lots of ammo packs at me, plus the napalm launcher and laser rifle, and I was getting more mods than I could use at first.  Then it surrounded City of Skulls with an unholy atmosphere.  I hardly ever see that effect!  And just to laugh at me, it threw the butcher's cleaver at me, after City of Skulls, on a non-melee run, after I'd assembled my piercing chainsaw.  Plus a revenant was quick to greet me after City of Skulls by opening a door and shooting me, and that nice little super charge in the corner was guarded by a mancubus.

In my experience you don't need the rocket box to kill the bruisers with missile launcher. As far as I can remember, I always killed them without taking any damage that way, even without any relevant traits.

It can't hurt though.

I've tried it without a rocket box before, but I usually end up missing important shots and having an empty missile launcher with bruisers in view.

Well, you should keep at least one rocket in your lanucher, once you have only one shot left and the bruisers are nowhere to be seen, reload until one of them comes to view. When in visible range, you are almost guaranteed to hit them and knock them back. If you run into problems, you can run a few tiles back and reload/whatever.
