ADOM revival on Indiegogo!
stargazer-3:
As much as I feared seeing as an ad, I'll post it anyway, it's an off-topic section after all!
Thomas Biskup, creator (or the Creator) of good old ADOM, have just started an Indiegogo campaign called Ressurect ADOM development.
He promises to fix all the bugs in his game, as well as add a modern touch to it (some interface tweaks, possibly musical score and a graphical menu)
He even promised open-sourcing ADOM as a stretch goal:

Dedicated to all ADOM lovers out on ChaosForge who don't follow Biskup's blog!

Heh. We should have something like that for DoomRL. At least DoomRL is still seeing active development.
Kornel Kisielewicz:
What bothers me here is the fact that:
1) Thomas has a well paid full-time job, and he's asking for money to work on something in his past-time
2) Thomas already works on JADE in his past time
3) the amount requested could probably fund full-time a single developer for a year (at least by my own standards)
4) I'm a struggling roguelike developer without a job who works on roguelikes for free, and barely gets any donations ($2 last month)
... so... why not throw money at the Forge instead? :'-(
stargazer-3:
Well, some people waited 10 years for that game to be finished. Biskup was explaining the the reasons behind this project in great detail, but the way I see it, it's not about showing appreciation to a developer but getting a really good game finally done. I wouldn't pay for JADE development.
But you deserve better than this. A game of DoomRL level could get into one of the Humble Indie Bundles easily (and the last one raised $5 mil!).
Kornel Kisielewicz:
Unfortunately the fact that it's based on a foreign IP doesn't allow me to sell it. However, I could probably raise money via Kickstarter or IndieGoGo, because I noticed they also accept Fan Films... However, I'd need a sensible goal to aim for (bugfixing + minor interface is obviously a ridiculous goal, for we do it all the time).
