Map marks
« on: September 20, 2012, 18:44 »

I asked that already but I didn't receive an answer about it. For now there are only barrels and dead alien bodies (didn't find any benefit from it) marked behind the sight line. What would be really great is to mark ammo, weapons and other useful stuff that is lying on the floor so you could run already discovered areas without such a trouble (changing to weapon which ammo you have, gathering leaved medpacs, etc.).

Was allready answered (long ago) on the board, marking everything visible on map would remove a lot of the claustrophobic feel of the game. Like being out of med packs... around 30 hp and remembering there are med packs the next tower. It would remove a lot of tension knowing where they are exactly.

I don't get why barrels are marked... but dead aliens showing is great : it allmost allways means you where there, very handy when you *have to* explore everything.

Well at least we need map of the whole level with already opened sectors in it. Something like that:
Level 2
  ?
  |
?-M-S
  | |
  m-s

Where M is main tower, S is security tower, m is medical tower, and s is storage tower.

And it would be really great if I could make my own marks attached to these sectors. For example if I'll move cursor to storage tower then I'll see a mark that I left there earlier - "shotgun". That means that I left shotgun in that sector that can be useful when I'll go back cause there will be no more 9mm ammo in my inventory or on the level but will be pretty many shotgun shells. You may count it as a map AlienRL notepad. For now I can do it in actual notepad but it is not very convenient.

I second this. The map should show the relative positions of explored towers (which will come in handy once the position of the towers gets randomized) and active elevators.

Hacking terminals could yield a map of the whole level or even complex, that would make it even more useful.

*sigh*

Wouldn't that be nice.

Alternatively, i'd settle for a way to make your own ammo/medkit/grenade stashes in easy-to-reach corners.

Well, the idea with marks (somehow limited, but still available) is nice.
I just wonder when would it be implemented :) .

He's got what he wanted - there's more activity on this board than on the one form DoomRL... I feel no remorse =)

There could also be beacons as alternative to map marks. So I could put them near some weapon or medkits so it would be easier to find them later. Beacons should work like marks from dead bodies or barrels but with specific symbol and colour.

YES, AliensRL activity makes me more than happy.

As for the topic itself, you may look at the newest DiabloRL release -- AliensRL will also have a waypoint autotravel system, but more complex -- and most notably with the possibility to setup waypoints by yourself.
