Author Topic: [H|Ao100|98%|22|YASD] Did you know that barrels explode when shot at?  (Read 2927 times)

(alt titles: Plasma damage goes through targets, barrels hurts, don't shoot at barrels at close range, etc.)

I should have been studying. I decided to play Ao100 instead.
I've completed Ao100 on HNTR once and that took 5 hours, over the course of about 4 sittings.
And then there have been probably 30 other failed attempts on Ao100 on HNTR, HMP, and UV.

It's still a fun mode, though. Like it a lot.

Anyway. This YASD came about me trying to avoid 2 viles and then me going into a door and finding myself standing right in front of a revenant. Here's where my brain had a bit of a "durr hurr" moment.

Now, I clearly saw that there was a barrel behind the revenant.
But I didn't want to knock back the revenant with the shotty, so I switched to my burst cannon. <-- Love this assembly. Love it. Not sure if there are better ones.

Bet you can't guess what happened afterward.

Also I'm not sure why I chose to build toward Badass. I know that I wanted to get it at some point down the line but in retrospect I would have put a point in either HR or Reloader.

There's a way to avoid accidentally hitting barrels in a situation like this. Perhaps you know it already, but you can aim behind the Revenant, at a square to the side of the barrel. That way, as long as your fire passes a tile containing the Revenant, it'll be hit, while consistently missing the dangerous barrel.

Hehe.... I once shot a barrel point-blank with a rocket launcher on Ao100 n! lvl 25. This is not nearly as stupid death =)

What Uitë said is a good trick for these situations. You can also sometimes use it to line up a shot to kill/hurt more enemies standing in a row, or to hit something you wouldn't be able to when aiming directly.

Thanks for the tip. It makes sense but of course I didn't even think about doing that.
I definitely need to learn how to stay focused and not make errors like that. But to be honest sometimes a YASD is entertaining in its own crazy way, unlike getting one-shotted by Mancubi. That's just my opinion though.

Definitely. I played a sharpshooter game recently, only just got the master trait. No good armour and only speedloader pistol. Suddenly I'm in a situation where I can either charge at an anrachnotron, or at a mancubus. Solution? I used a homing phase and got instakilled by a baron of hell.
