hi, this is my first post here, and i don't speak English very well, so i will do what i can.
i discovered this game 1 month ago and i m at more than 4 day of  game time ( i think i have a problem with addiction :D ) yesterday was a special day because it was my first win in UV (AoSht) and my first win in Ao100 with the discover of the DS!

So, this was another try on AO100, wanted to have ammochain build, but at level 18 i found the Dragonslayer so it change my plan a bit :p

No problem to take it ( i read this forum a lot and it appear that it's a king of relic here so i was very exited, i had my little "theory" which was exact)
the rest of the game was very easy with this blade, i crushed all enemies very fast, it was almost boring near the end but i went for my first win in Ao100 ( i feel like a cheater to complete it with the DS though because i wouldn't be able to deal with all the enemies i met without it...)

Nice work! And congratulations on finding the DS - I've never even seen it, much less picked it up. I have a few theories of my own, but so far no luck in testing them =)

Dragonslayer is the one thing I've never figured out in this game.  It's the biggest barrier to me getting all the badges.  :P

I've been playing DoomRL since 0.9.8 and I still haven't gotten the DS. Dude plays for a month and picks it up. FML.
GJ though, Ao100 on anything higher than HNTR gets tough since you're more likely to get instagibbed. Course the DS makes it considerably easier.

isn't enough either.  :|  Someone suggested looking at mortems in which other people found it, so supposedly, something in the mortems is a clue, but I've still never figured it out.  :|

trying unload just open inventory with your weapons to unload :(

last idea is "nuke it and survive the explosion" - but need nuke and invulnerability for at list 11 turns, not for anyone, and very rare condition - find DS, have a nuke and be invul simultaneously.

Unfortunately, no savescumming possible - no way get save before DS ) may be I never find it again in a hundreds of runs

Tried all that and much more and couldn't pick it up.

Also I suggest to at least hide those unsuccessful methods in spoiler tags if not delete completely since i think even unsuccessful ones are big spoiler that should be avoided. That is also the reason I never posted description of all my crazy and time consuming attempts to pick DS up even though I wanted to post them so much (they are pretty funny i think :D ).

As for hints in previous DS successful mortems, i read all of them some time ago and I thought that I found some HUGE hints, i had no luck with them though so maybe I was just seeing things :).

I recall someone saying that DS appears in UC, but only on N! and with 100% kills. But that's a guaranteed DS. Maybe you just have to have 100% kills when you pick up DS? And, maybe, at least HNTR.
And you can wear BA only with DS in your hands.
Only guesses... I'm not a very skilled player, I can't handle N! so I can't even verify N! UC YAAM.

I got the guaranteed DS to generate once, so I know you don't have to have 100% kills.  I think it's based on how much damage you've taken, since I was trying to get Untouchable Cross that game.  (Win, taking less than 50 damage)  I'm pretty sure it has to be Nightmare! difficulty for it to generate there, and I think you're right about only being able to wear BA if you have DS.

But my skills are not enough for descending to N! UC - usually they kill me at level 2 or 3...

i still don't know if you have condition to make DS appear (in that case i think i discovered few of them because i made "particular" things that i remember in this run before found it) or you can find it just by luck.
For condition to yield it when i read you i said myself maybe i was lucky and have done something without know :p

no, conditions are only for N! game, when guaranteed DS appears at Unholy Cathedral. At Ao100 runs (and all other not N!) DS appears randomly. So, never know when...
