[U|100%|YAAM] Gatekeeper Diamond, Beretta & a shit load of drops

(1/1)

Radagast:
First full run with 0.9.9.7G , got my first diamond too, so many of the special levels were truly a surprise and a great new experience too.
Thank God they were not enough to destroy the run, got scared many times, but made it in the end with a bit of luck! :P

Tried the random name too for first time, can't say I loved the result but oh well. :P

It got dangerous in some of the normal but also special levels, but late game was truly a breeze with loads of nukes and inv. globes.
Loads of drops, medpacks, exotics and uniques too, with the Beretta medal being the tip of the iceberg I guess. ^^

Anyway here goes:

--- End code ---

(yeah i Know it's almost 10 hours... I become real careful on such runs lol...)

I had tried to get Anomaly damageless with the cateye build a few times, but always something unexpected happened and I got hit, or the phase just failed to get me where I wanted it to.
This time I got lucky though, mainly with the Phase Device in the Anomaly and the fast kill of the two bruiser brothers with a tactical shotty. Got teleported next to the hellgate got a bit up with running and hid behind the pillar. One bruiser brother approached from the top. Easy corner-shooting and reloading with the tactical shotty. At some point while shooting him, the 2nd one seemed to be going the other side around. The pattern was unpredictable the way he was moving. Thankfully he changed his mind and went left again approaching from the same top where the other was. This was their biggest mistake. I just kept knockbacking both together with the same shrapnels over and over and over with cover obviously. After a while they just died. :)

After that (wall of text)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)the rest of the Anomaly was easy offscreen radarshooting with anything available, chaingun/plasma rifle/rockets even shotty. Just kept it safe. Still had cyber for the diamond though.
After a terrifying first encounter with the nightmare demons in Phobos Lab, and later the powerful shamblers (which shred my armors and medpacks to pieces), I finally got a nano mod.
Antigravity Boots was the way to go if I wanted to get Cybie damageless, I knew that so I went for that one. I had done it before just one more time was needed. In AoMc it would be easier for sure but I couldn't lose hope I could still do it.

Took some time but crafted the uber boots in time. :)

What really scared me on this run was lack of ammunition. At some point the creature numbers were immense while the ammo not enough at all. The wall was easy but costed too much ammo. Imagine that it was the first time I encountered city of skulls and couldn't enter it at all due to complete lack of ammunition ! :(

I remember at least once or twice entering a new level and searching for ammo in the floors like crazy while avoiding some creatures and killing others with whatever I could find on the floor. Bullets/rockets/plasma cells were all almost extinct. Mancubi, Revenants, Former Commandos with lack of ammunition don't promise much future for the doomguy do they...

Thankfully I did get out of that mess and at halls of carnage this problem mainly disappeared due to the abundance of ammo from sergeants/humans.

And this was another time I got "real" scared. Halls of Carnage. Like 10 times harder that it was in 0.9.9.6... That was a complete shock. The lava in UV was running like crazy. I didn't have time to linger or corner-shoot even for a second. I just charged into the fray. The creatures seemed double the number I remember.. Or even more.. I did get a modpack on my way and continued running, didn't have time to cornershoot the barons/hell knights much, so I just threw dozens of missiles on the other side with the launcher opening a huge gap which reached right to the BFG room in the end... I avoided all doors and maze this way lol... But at least I got to the bfg right before the lava came. Funny thing is I was standing on the stairs and thought. Ok I can leave with a single click, why not stay here and see what happens? Maybe I can somehow still get 100% in this game. Well, luckily the lava doesn't step on stairs. It continued to the right, over me, but not killing me. 3 barons of hell were still alive on right-end of map. As the lava continued and destroyed the walls I became exposed to them, as were they to me.

This was the funny part. At that point I decided to use the Acid Spitter for the first time. Well I couldn't picture it but the result was terribly effective, loads of dmg and a huge acid pool on many tiles which would kill the barons quite fast. They had nowhere to go. I did fear for the off-chance they get a shot at me and knockback me in the lava, but after a few turns they just died like suckers. I wish I had kept a screenshot of that. Adrenaline was quite high. xD

Cyberdemon's head was not really easy either, even with the anti-gr boots I must have circled the level at least 2-3 times, and with quite some luck and medpacks in order to not let him hit at all. In the meantime I never had time to reload so I just emptied all my weapons on him from huge ranges... bfg, hyperblaster, missile launcher, gatling gun everything, until he died. Diamond was mine. xD

Bad thing is I entered the next level with ALL weapons needing reloading... And some arachnotrons, cacofiends, pain elemental, commandos and other creatures while on medium-max range had closed all my potential exits... And no I didn't have a phase device... I don't even remember how I got out of that situation but hopefully I did after some running around to find cover. I'm pretty sure it would be impossible without the boots. I remember on that occasion that only after killing 20-30 monsters, did I manage to AT LAST reload all my weapons. This was HELL all right...

Tbh with the above exceptions after the hyperblaster with Firestorm mod and finally getting enough ammunition which was 100% filled in the easy mode-Vaults, the rest of the game was very very easy, a walk in the park actually. Especially when I got juggler too. I love this trait. I find it great for rapid-fire builds. :P

Limbo was nuked with INV while I got the nuclear BFG with a phase (!!), Mount Erebus was too easy by now with the Cyberdemon boots I had made, everything died with 1 or 2 hyperblaster shots. Found much stuff on late levels including a Medical Power Armor, a Blaster, gothic boots and even a Minigun, but honestly I needed nothing of those.

And even at Spider Mastermind I got an invulnerability from last level and walked up to him like a gentleman, emptied the beretta in 2 shots with TH on full automatic mode, emptied the hyperblaster and finally killed it with two BFG shots.

Beretta is srsly a BEAST, wish I had found it on my AoMr runs...

I did forget to keep a nuke for mastermind though, so it couldn't be a full win facing JC. Who cares though? :P

SORRY for the HUGE post I got carried away....DAMN...

PS : And to think this run was just for the UAC Gold in the beginning. I'm pretty sure this is by far the easiest Diamond btw. Others will require much better skills which I currently don't have.
