First win in the new version (because I'm stubborn and wanted my first win to be a UV one :-) )

The big moment in this game was when I entered the Phobos Lab - I've done it a few times on HMP and I honestly thought that the jump in difficulty between HMP and UV would involve sprinkling a few Barons/Knights around. I did not expect the nightmare demons... Luckily I walked in with tons of medkits, an ammo chain and Sharpshooter - I would never have survived without those. After pulling the second lever I ran back through the acid to soften up the surprise wave of demons and managed to get through. I'm not sure I'm going to do that again on my AoMr runs - if it wasn't for the technician being able to use multiple medkits without using up any time I would've been toast...

After that things went pretty smoothly - all the extra mods that are available now makes Sharpshooter quite potent - I don't usually bother with WK2 but this time round I had so many mods it made quite a difference.

Thoughts on the new version:

 - I really like the new levels: Phobos Lab made me jump the first time I played it ;-)
 - Whoever worked on the linux version did a superb job. It's much smoother and it doesn't max out the cpu anymore (on the console version - I never play the graphical version)
 - Dual-Angels are... intriguing. I like the idea of mixing my favourite AoMC with some other challenges....
 - I'm glad to see more of the nightmare enemies. I see they can turn up now in normal play on UV which adds an extra element of danger. Plus they creep me out - so quiet!
 - I'd like to add myself to the list of people disappointed at the loss of the nuclear plasma rifle in the Spiders Lair. Maybe we can have a guaranteed nuke in one of the other levels? It doesn't matter much on my AoMr runs but my next goal is to get a full win... (I know there's a nuclear BFG in the mortuary... but it's the Mortuary goddammit!).

And  before skarczew asks: I did try a Glass Cannon Cat-Eye build and it was pretty epic - until I very stupidly got blindsided by a Baron and ended up in a pool of lava. I'm definitely going to play it more in the future. Sharpshooter is probably still my favourite though (by a whisker :-) )

I haven't 0997 played on HMP+ yet, but on HNTR the Lab contains 2 envirosuits. It helps to take both, and when the demons show up, run back into the acid again. Don't know what you'd be up against, though.

Ah, I know those. IMO, Glass Cannon is about the only way to play Cateye to the fullest.

Sorry - that was a reference to my last AoMr post .  Skarczew told me I needed to get SoG5 (I did) and kill the shambler (check) and then try a Glass Cannon Cat-Eye build (play a scout and instead of going for Gun Kata go for Cat-Eye instead - tvtropes ftw :-) ).

Wow - thanks, that's a great compliment. I've been playing since 0.9.9.2 and I'm only starting to get the harder badges now. I'm not a much of an all round player - AoMr and AoMC are my challenges of choice - (I have exactly 1 standard game in my high score list atm). For getting better GameHunter has a youtube video for an AoMr UV run that helped me a ton - I think it's for 0.9.9.4 but most of the principles are still the same....

Yeah, I watched some of GameHunters video's to grasp the basics, the rest I mostly try to figure out via the forum.

The Cateye thing makes sense on higher difficulties (or A100); sadly, in a standard HNTR there's just not enough xp to go around.

Yep, you are right. I play almost exclusively UV (and sometimes N! as well).
