If patience is an issue, perhaps you could alter the config.lua file.  Specifically, change the rundelay to 1 (or zero) and the maxwait to something high like 100.  (or 1000?)  Then just push , and . and Doomguy will take less than a second to wait forever.  :)  Repeat as many times as necessary to clear the level of Formers.

EDIT:  Oh, and congrats on the Berserker Gold!  :D
