1899 - The Hidden Hands of the Aether
LuckyDee:
The guy is close to foaming at the mouth with indignity, and shaking more than slightly. "You haven't heard the last of this!" he shouts. If you had a penny for every time you heard that...
As the man stomps off west up Perry Vale, still loudly complaining, movement on Woolstone Road catches your eye. In the slowly setting sun, a black rat - and a big one, too - is sitting in the middle of the street, looking at you as if expecting you to comment.
Esther:
Josie returns to the kitchen shaking her head as she listens to the con men shouting his complaints. Looking around for whatever needs to be done she quickly takes a bite out of a bun dipped into the soup Mrs. Feather put aside for her. She never takes the time to eat properly. When there are no orders to be taken out she'll start on the massive task of doing the dishes.
Klear:
"Get an honest job," Hugo shouts after the con man, but then an enormous rat catches his attention.
He goes a step towards it, unsure what to make of it. In the end, he decides on more shouting.
"Get out of here!" he gestures towards the rat, and then turns to return back to the inn.
LuckyDee:
As Josie takes a moment to grab a bite, Mellie walks by and pats her on the head. "You take good care of yourself now, deary, we don't want you keeling over with so many customers watching", she says with a wink. She heads out into the common room on one of her rounds, checking up on the customers and surveying the state of the place.
In the kitchen, there's still work aplenty indeed, and soon enough Ron starts to blather at Josie, about nothing in particular, as usual. Ron's a friendly bloke, who doesn't seem to mind Josie's lack of response at all. "Nonono, don't bother - I know what you're thinking - but if I tell the missus that, I'll never hear the end of it. Talking about the complications of being in a relationship, though, d'ya see the butcher's boy eyeing you this afternoon?"
As Hugo steps back in and surveys the common room, he sees the man who came in during the previous incident looking at him as if his re-entry gave him a fright again. Weird bloke. Then he spots Mellie coming in from the kitchen, and is reminded of the fight next Saturday.
Esther:
As Ron mentions the butcher's boy Josie's stomach turns and she has to put down her food. She composes herself quickly and makes a face at Ron showing her disgust. She has seen the boy looking at her and finds the thought of anyone approaching her in that manner incredibly upsetting. All she can do is hope that the threatening looks she gave the boy so far will put him off.
