I'm guessing it's doable to beat UC and get the spear this way?
Just hope you spawn close to the red stairs, then cut up the souls & demons (you should be getting a couple levels from this too, I think) then use the free zerk that comes with the chainsaw, and beat AoD.

(probably not possible on nightmare tho :p)
