Angelic Pacific badge proof of concept

Matt_S:
New idea for AAoPc AI: they try to kill each other or walk onto acid/lava.  Or stand on the stairs out and never move.

Spoiler: Primitive, probably incorrect mathematics (click to show/hide)1368 squares on the walkable doomRL map (oh god I hope I did the multiplication right)
215 squares in vision range, assuming they aren't being blocked by walls or doors or 2Dev's mountain of badges

assuming spawn chance for stairs is uniform across the whole map, and completely ignoring any reduction in vision due to spawning on the outskirts of the map, the probability that the stairs are within your vision range is 215/1368 = 0.157 to three significant figures (seems sort of right, you can see around a tenth of the map with unobstructed vision, right...?)

Excluding entryway, Phobos Anomaly, Babel and Dis, there are 20 randomly generated levels.
I would take a guess that 0.157^20 is the probability that the stairs would spawn in vision range for every single level.
That calculation results in 8.45x10^-17.
Or, 0.0000000000000000845.
If you prefer, a 1.18x10^16 to one chance.

Please feel free to berate me on my appalling use of mathematics. I am going to use the excuse that I am tired and have not had a cup of tea in a while as an excuse, rather than the actual reason, me not being particularly good at any sort of statistics or probability.

And back sort of on topic:
I am glad that it's been proven possible!
I can easily imagine how enraging sergeants and blindly rampaging demons would be on this challenge - good luck getting it ;) !

...and if we apply more appaling mathematics, we find out that to see this, assuming every run takes a minute, you'll need roughly 1.5x10^9 millennia to have a good chance to see this. I guess I was overly pessimistic. That's not even near the heat-death of the universe.

Bah, anyone could do it : just start a new AoPC game (so, you avoid entryway), and then, savescum...

It'd need a lot of patience, but I don't see the point, really :) I doubt watching a char finding immediate stairs (and getting miraculously lucky with phases on anomaly & cybie, btw) is very interesting.

A small update to tell you that I haven't completely given up on this (just, you know, mostly given up on this).

Anyway, I've just managed to pass the Anomaly without a phase for the first time. I was convinced it's impossible. Sadly, that attempt ended with the bruisers. Stupid me.
