Having gained my second, and probably last diamond for a long time, I turned to getting some of the easier badges. I decided to go for Strongman Gold, choosing the obvious build - malicious blades. I rarely use it, since it's quite a pain at first, but it's a lot of fun every time I do, so I was looking forward to this run. I progressed like normal, got berserker which helped a lot with the abundant pinkie vaults that spawned and... then I realized I just messed up. I was close to rage quitting, but I did get an onyx pack and red armour very early, so I went on, knowing that I just robbed myself of half the damage output and a lot of protection.

The game turned out to be a breeze though. Must be because I'm used to UV. I was burning through a lot of medkits, but RNG kept me supplied. Eventually I did get a master - fireangel, though that was halfway through the lava pits and didn't really make any change. It would have been much better to get TaN instead of shottyman and reloader, but I was an unstoppable killing machine even without it.

Nice recovery. 2 questions regarding MFa though:

1) Your torso fire resistance is only listed as 85%. Does MFa simply not register there, or is this a minor bug?
2) Does MFa do anything to protect your feet, or is it really just fire attacks?

Actually Fireangel does not protect you from fire damage (although you might guess so from the name).

It only protects you against the area effect of an explosion (be it fire, acid or plasma damage).

You still take full damage in the case of a direct hit.

Hmmm. That makes it sound a lot lamer than I'd expected. I'll have to try for myself then, see how it works out. At least it comes with a free Dodgemaster.

It's not that bad - on the contrary. In combination with Dodgemaster, it allows you to completely negate revenants or barons, and if you have time to step away once the arch-vile raises its arms, the attack is negated is well, even if you are caught in the blast.

Revenants too? I'd have thought that, since their attack is not a trajectory, DM is actually useless, ie it lands right on top of you even if you move. For Barons (and Knights, Mancubi, Imps, Cacos) it makes sense, and the Vile thing should work, too. Turns out there are more splash attacks than I figured at first glance.

Revenants can be dodged, except without fireangel you will always get splashed anyway.

Oh, and fireangel also negates splash from your own explosives. You can rocketjump safely and shoot rockets in melee range =)

All enemies except sergeants can miss due to dodge chance, it's just it's not helpful if explosion is centered on nearby tile. And with MFa if you dodge an attack than you're perfectly safe. In combination with Berserker it really can do wonders as you can get near your target without getting a scratch.
