Berserk! 0.8 - Release Candidate 2

Second release candidate of Berserk! 0.8 is ready! I'm happy to tell that I managed to pack in a few fresh features. On the downside tough, I wasn't able to track down that doppleganger bug. But fear not! We have a weapon against it now -- Ladies and Gentlement, herby I present the newest Chaosforge technology! -> Berserk 0.8 RC2 is the first Valkyrie game to utilize KeyMovies ;]. If you happen to encounter the dopplegangerbug, please post your replay (berserk.rec) of that game on the forum -- remember that the replay is only saved at death tough (in the future it will be saved always).

BTW, record compatibility between versions is ALWAYS broken.

Here's the feature list
-- [add] Recording of the gameplay (berserk.rec)
         ("berserk -play" to replay)
-- [add] three new monsters with special skills
-- [add] screenshot in mortem
-- [mod] Running now again available to all
-- [mod] Increased bomb damage by 50%
-- [mod] hunter -> imp, no more "monster"

Shooting enemies outside of your vision with a crossbow tells you what you hit

Haven't got much other comments yet besides that i'm having fun but i hate imps.

In my opinion everything that is needed is balance and adding new things, like new landscapes, new skills and such, and perhaps more differentiation between monsters (I can't find much at a glance, except for the phasehound).

I was going to post my .rec but I can figure out how to do it. Also, it'd be nice to be able to change the name of the replay and still be able to see it, something like "berserk -play adral140107.rec"

Yeah agreed with all. But I still want to do the Campaign mode :]. As for differentiation this will also be adressed.

Can you give us a little teaser of what Campaign mode will have, please? I'm really curious!

Not directly related to differentiation, but still, I think mandragores could use another colour, because with all that blood sometimes they are hard to see :P I'd save the blood colour for some monster with blood-related abilities (if there is going to be any) What do other people think about this?

replaying works like a charm

skeletons are really weak. but i guess that's a good thing since Wraiths can gather quite a big amount around them.

Not much better unfortunately, because I have most of the features that I wanted for 0.8 already in. But work on 0.9 will start soon ;> Berserk! is realy fun to code!

This is only a rudimentary version of the replay mode. An enhanced one will come out soon.

Maybe set up some branches for the Berserk forum, including a Post Mortem? It'll also give it a more important feel :)

First try. Made some terrible choices of attributes, so I'm not too disapointed with my game length.
Problem is that at 12 END I still couldn't take Running.

Recording is fun... as for new monsters - havn't seen any so far - probably need to train my tactical aproach to the new Berserk, as so far my longest "life" was 3 nights... BTW how are points given out at end of night? (I got 4 after first night but one after second? O.o)

Oh, and I like the "night lenght counter" very much ^^

Second try.

Running's still a must-have. Impale's ok, and maybe once I manage to push a couple more ranks into it I'll have a more solid opinion. Sweep(3) isn't nearly as good as I had hoped.

My 1-turn massacre is the result of a well-placed cannon attack on a Wraith et al, which led me to think maybe there should be a distinction between cannon slaughter and HtH sprees.

Wraiths are hell on earth, and I'm not sure I understand phasehounds. They teleport after attacking?

The moment I noticed equipment's comulitive, I started balancing bomb/cannon accordingly. Cannons are superior by far, but a well-placed bomb's good enough to shake formations up.
