On a related note, I don't think any of the uncommon mods acquired though Scavenger show up as 'found' - possibly unless you drop and pick them up again, which would be crappy. I think it makes sense to only either find a weapon or a mod scavenged from a weapon (although Scavenger could do with some finetuning), but not 'both if you're willing to invest a couple of extra actions'.
It also relates to the DS discussion, since as of 0997 it doesn't count as 'found' anymore unless you pick it up. IMO, this doesn't add up, especially since being able to wield the DS without having it spoilered is considered such a feat in this community. In the current version, the reasoning more or less translates to "Well, I saw Mount Everest today - Were you able to pick it up? - Well, no... - Then you didn't see it."
Theory and practice don't quite match, which is a shame. For DS, arrangements were better on 0996; can't say if there are any differences for Scavenger. However, in its current form (ie, with hardly any significant restrictions but hardly any significant bonuses either) I think Scavenger should give you both the exotic/unique weapon and the mod gained from it as 'found' items (for Armorer purposes, naturally)(and the DS should be found upon trying to lift it, instead of upon actually lifting it).
