[M|AoSG|99%|16|YASD] My first Cyberdemon encounter
Mech__Warrior:
I didn't know about the Mortem tags, so I do apologize about that. I'll remember for next time.
The thing was is that I was having some bad luck. Cybie was hitting me consistently with his rockets, and I panicked. My Fireproof Blue Armor took some serious damage from the Demios Lab, so I was trying to find armor scraps to fix it up. I would have made Fireproof Red, but the Red you get in the Anomaly didn't survive the assault of Lost Souls, so I tried to make things work with the next best thing I had.
I was trying to run and gun, but I'm still relatively new at getting far in DoomRL. I was trying to hide behind those small corners in the Lab, trying to get corner shots off at them but they ended up going through two of the Blue Armors I found. I was also fighting two at the same time. I should have used the 'look' key to focus one down before taking on the other, but its in the past now.
I also have a tendency to horde things in games because, well, you never know when you'll need those four envirosuits or get another. :) I thought I only had two at the time, huh.
White Rider:
--- Quote from: singalen on July 31, 2013, 04:15 ---Envirosuit also ups your BODY resistances a little, so it could have helped against Cybie.

Marginally, I suppose. What was it, +25% acid and fire resist while you have an envirosuit active? Definitely an oddball way to go about fighting Cybie, but if it works, who am I to complain.
--- Quote ---And, BTW, Lava Pits.
--- End quote ---
Fireproof boots, and maybe two envirosuits at most. Four is overkill--those two slots could have been used for other things, like ammo or heals.
Also phase device-ing your way across Lava Pits is hilarious.
Mech__Warrior:
So I reached good ol' Uncle Cybie again, and this time he stomped me. I ran out of ammo for my shotguns and since he was almost dead, I could punch him to death! Well, I was wrong...

49 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
47 of those were killed.
1 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
And 1 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

I will say Fireproof Red Armor is one of the best inventions created by man, and I was only taking about 5% of damage from the rockets. Pretty nifty.
Klear:
Be careful with the fireproof armour though - while it increases your fire resistance, melee damage actually hurts more. And Cybie hits hard if you're not zerked. In any case, when it comes to shotguns, there's rarely such a thing as too much ammo.

Maybe that was it. Either way, I kind of knew I was dead anyway. I didn't think I would run out of ammo either, having like 200 shotgun shells or so, but it ended up happening. I had a box full of shells and 100 rounds on me.
