[M|17||YASD] Eat this Angel of Death
FlamingTP:
Actually I did read up on the game, roguelikes are notoriously difficult and like Dwarf Fortress I knew spoilers wouldn't ruin my fun. and they haven't really.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)My plan was to run past the demons and activate the Hell Wave pack next to the Angel of Death. then hope it hurt him enough to finish him off with the chainsaw. I got stuck in a corner though and it didn't kill all the demons, I took a stupid risk and got owned.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)Hellwave does 110 damage on average. AoD gas 290 HP on HNTR (more on higher difficulties), so you would take about 1/3 of his HP. Not that much.
If you want to seriously tackle the UC, you need the Berserker trait and a chainsaw (a knife may work, but it will take ages). Alternatively, if _both_ your attack and movement speed are very fast, you may kite him very safely - but in this case, be prepared for quite a long grind there.
Oh and by the way, to make things easier - try to lead the demons outside of the building and have them follow you through lava. If you're moving fast enough, it's satifaction guaranteed.

I've never been able to figure out how one kites while staying melee...Is it just a matter of having enough attack speed to attack one turn and move away the next turn before you get hit? That sounds like it requires a metric shitton of both move speed and attack speed.

If I'm not mistaken, a scout with 2 levels of Finesse and 2 levels of HR is just barely fast enough to do it, but then each step has to be very precise with almost no margin for error. A tech mod on the Chainsaw and some agility mods on your armour will give you a bit more breathing room. Regardless, expect to be chased around the Cathedral a few times. :)

See here for details. Basically Tormuse is right - a Scout with Fin2 and HR2 has both attack and movement speed at 0.64s compared to 0.67s speed of AoD. It's doable even without Brute, but expect a loooong and tedious fight (on N! it took me something between 30-40 minutes) with little to no margin for error.
