Armorer Platinum overconfidence exploit
« on: September 17, 2013, 07:48 »

I just found out that if you drop starting gear in AoOc and pick it up again, it counts towards found exotics. Therefore, Armorer Platinum just became the easiest platinum ever :D

The same goes for dropping and repicking the starting chainsaw on AoB+AoOC, giving you the Berserk effect similarly to the one found in CC. Quite helpful for quick Longinus Diamond runs.

Yeah, I used it for my scavenger diamond run, but i didn't notice the specials count increase until later when I checked it purposely.

I'm not sure if we want to fix this.  Semantically, some might argue that the given load out was never really "picked up", and therefore if you drop it and pick it up, it ought to count as "picking it up for the first time", the trigger that sets up the 'zerk for Chainsaw and the counting of specials.

I argue that if you have it in your possession, then it is understood that you have already "picked it up", and so the "first pick up" trigger ought to not work.

It has been quite an ugly argument, and I'm still unconvinced that we should let things be.

Suggestions?

My vote is that its a Good bug. Forcing Armorer Platinum to be a grindfest is bad gameplay, so having a loophole is fun!

Well, having the zeriking option with chainsaw is incredibly useful, and also doesn't feel overpowered at the same time, so I'm in for keeping it that way. But I don't think armorer plat should be THAT easy to get, seriously, all you need is to unlock AoOC and then spend few hours restarting it while dropping and picking up the exotics. Sereging the badges with AoOC and chainsaw zerk still requires some amount of skill and luck, while any moron can farm for armorer plat.

Than again, nobody probably did it until I started this topic :D

It's 1000 freaking exotics/uniques, man.
By the time it takes for you to farm those exotics on OC, you probably could have gotten another "easy" Platinum, like Technician. Marksman Platinum isn't that hard either but maybe I'm just biased.

If you're really in a rush to get Armorer Platinum then may I suggest playing runs of AAo666?

I'm not rushing it, I am already 2/3 done with it anyway. I was just pointing it out. And if you count it, it is possible to get it in around 5hrs (1min per run with 3 exotics equals 333 minutes to get 999 pickups). I did Arch666 and it took me muuuch longer.

Farming for exotics is a horrible achievement anyway, shows nothing about skill, just length of time played. Achievements should be noteworthy, not accomplished for just being there.

I vote for "starting equipment should be counted as already picked up".

If starting equipment counts as already picked up (which it probably should), shouldn't it still count towards the Armourer Platinum badge? It'd just remove the need to drop equipment at the start of the level?

Regardless, the problem's with Armourer, not with AoOC.

No!  It's not with Armourer or AoOC, it's with the programmatic load-out not disabling "initial pick-up" hook.

Pay attention, guys.

It's just that AoOC with the exotic load-out makes the behaviour more obvious.
