Gun Kata - enemies don't cause an auto reload

I was just playing Angel of Marksmanship, and decided to go for the Gun Kata build.
It seems that only enemies killed as of a direct hit by directly aiming on their tile causes an autoreload.
If I did this:

the former human would die, but it wouldn't cause my guns to reload.
Is this a bug, or a "feature"?

That's the way Gun Kata has always worked. You only auto-reload if the enemy you were directly targeting dies. I'm pretty sure it's intentional.

Assuming I understand how kill attribution currently works, this is so that you don't get free reloads every time an off-screen Demon decides to take a lava bath.

Is there any flag put up or something that says a monster died of "environmental causes" so that in theory, the game could block that death from causing a reload?

AFAIK not as of now, but thelaptop has mentioned that a bug with attributing kills to an AoPc wielding a weapon has been fixed in 0.9.9.8. Depending on how it gets fixed, it's possible that there will be in the next version.
