Adding a ladder

I'm thinking about this for some time now - I'd like to see some sort of ladder showing the best doomrl players - based on badges. A lot of ppl (including me) add their rank to the forum signature, but there is no way of directly compare one to another. For me, a LOT of encouragement to play comes from getting new badges, it could be even better if I knew I need one more to improve my standing in the ladder. A score could be calculated based on the value of the badges - e.g. number of bronze *1 + number of silver*3 + number of gold*9 etc... - obviously the actual formula would have to be properly thought through. Seeing my own standing compared to the other players could be nice addition to the game :) What do you think?

Everyone agrees with you. In fact, it was an unachieved stretch goal in the last donation drive.

I think it's been mostly avoided since due to insecurity within the game, dealing with scumming/save-stating and general lack of effort on the server front. Since JH is where 99% of the effort is right now, I wouldn't count on this appearing in 2014.

I, for one, would love to be on the ladder.

There is, of course, nothing stopping you from posting an 'unofficial ladder' right here on the DoomRL discussion board...

And since it is all honour based with no built-in checking, the correctness of the ladder is always in suspicion.

But that doesn't detract from the fun, right?  O.o

I would love a ladder, if for no other reason that to show how terrible I am! :P Seriously, though, sounds interesting.
