Looks like you're the prime candidate for testing Win8 compatibility now.  Mwahahaha.

One last thing to test: setting of affinity to processor and/or raising the priority?  I can't think of why the pipeline slows down the way you suggests on Win8, short of assuming that somehow, the old system calls are being emulated instead of running native.
