I failed to get this badge many, many times in the past, (92 times, I checked; not including the beta-testing attempts)  :P  and I haven't tried it in a while, and today, on a whim, I gave it a whirl and won after three tries!  :o  Woo!  :D

It's been achieved before, using the scout's stair sense to stair-dive, but I really wanted to do it with a Vampyre build.  I still dove for the stairs any time I could, but the lack of stair-sense made it awkward most of the time.  :P

Reaching character level 6 in a melee game is hard to begin with; it's especially freaking hard when you can't heal yourself!  :|  Naturally, getting to Vampyre trait was the hardest part and that's where most of my attempts failed, but this time, there were enough berserk packs along the way to keep me going and I got Vampyre trait shortly before the anomaly.  I considered hanging around the level, killing enemies to regain my health before proceeding, but I wanted to keep the berserk going as long as possible, so I plunged onward and it lasted until shortly before the Cyberdemon.  The rest of the game went pretty smoothly except two occasions, one when I was reduced to 10% health with a cacodemon bearing down on me and I picked up an invulnerability at the last second, and another in an arachnotron cave where I was taking a bit of a pounding and low on health and had a well-timed level-up supercharge.  By the end, I was so tough from all the levels I took in Iro and TaN, that on the second-last level, I charged two Baron/Arch-Vile packs and came out with more health than I started, even without leveling up!

Over the course of my DoomRL "career," I've had a lot of berserker games fail because I got too bloodthirsty and tried to get too many kills, so this time, I left a lot of enemies alive, killing only things that were in my way, sometimes even running past them, and going straight to the exit, no matter how tempting it was to deviate, with a few exceptions, most notably at the anomaly, where I lured the nightmare creatures into the doorway and killed them where they could only get at me one at a time, (Lots of easy experience!)  :) and the Unholy Cathedral, because c'mon, I couldn't possibly pass up the Longinus Spear in a melee game.  :)

All in all, I'm very glad to, at long last, get this badge out of the way.  Yay!  :D

EDIT:  Also, since this was Angel of Masochism, all those med packs were redundant.  At first, I picked them up for purposes of gift-dropping, but looking again, holding on to six of them just seems silly; I guess I'm a hoarder by nature.  :P

Well, I'm sure it would be *possible* for me to pull it off...  but 2Dev is the one who claims to be able to play damageless games regularly, so I think you'll have to look to him to do that.  :)

Wow congrats! As someone who has spent a lot of time trying to get Berserker Platinum with Vampyre, you have just blown my tiny mind.
