Then at last he found the Phobos Arena.
 There he finally nuked himself..

-- General ---------------------------------------------------

Before him 18 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 15 of those were killed.

Some rumours though, say that the Cyberdemon was killed already!
Is he immortal? 3 souls claim to have killed him...
2 killed the bastard and survived.
1 showed that it can outsmart hell itself.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Unfortunately, no Hell's Arena on this run.

As is my custom, I nuked a special level, namely the Cathedral. Because I'd never seen completion message and am not interested in melee at all.

After clearing arachnotron caves when I saw the red stairs, I thought: "I have 500 power cells plus a full BFG. How hard can it be?" before entering the Mortuary. Only time I've been there before I'd nuked it. Well, as it turns out, 600 power cells+20 rockets+plenty of bullets weren't enough. I had to flee before I was entirely out of ammo. That is ridiculous!
But maybe that's because I went left first, I didn't even get to see the right side of the level because of hordes of demons.

To add insult to the injury, the next level was arachnotron caves again! About 15 of them this time, I think. I only had one BFG shot, a single rocket and around 300 bullets. If it weren't for TaN(3) and the red armor (which was %4 by the time I cleared the caves) I wouldn't survive.

As usual, Cyberdemon was a pushover after all those hell levels.

I have no idea how UV can be played when Cateye and Intuition are nerfed.

It has been done. Not by myself yet, but Blade and Styro, AFAIR, have done it.

Assuming you weren't aware of this, when in an Arach cave, try hiding in a spot safe AI-wise and let them fry themselves on the omnipresent lava, instead of wasting bullets. No XP, but that's the price to pay.

I never use Intuition or Cat's Eye, but I use the weak AI against itself, which is almost the same thing. I have been trying to win a UV game without "cheating" against the AI by only killing an enemy while I can see it (no shooting off screen). This has proven to be much more difficult than the regular way I play, but not impossible. I haven't won yet, but I get close (I have tried about 5 times now).

I am convinced that the key to UV survival in the new version will be speed. In Marksmanship games (in the beta), it gets to the point where you can unload your pistols, reload, and unload again without the enemies moving or firing. You do this with the skills SoB, DG, and Finesse, and by speed modding your Advanced Pistol. You don't have so many speed options in a regular game, but 3 levels of Finesse will become very important in the new version. Also Reloader for similar reasons.

2 levels of Finesse.  Unless I've been seeing things as far as Finesse being grayed out and all after taking said levels is concerned and all...

Yep, you're right. Finesse only allows two levels. I just came back to correct myself. :)

The other traits I have been picking are Hellrunner (for obvious reasons) and SoB, because I tend to play Chaingun games.
