Hello,

don't get me wrong - I know what "killed by something" is: bleeding to death, melting in acid or burning in lava.  However, today I came across something totally different: I stepped around some barrels and suddenly all of them started blowing, killing me instantly.  I expected something like "killed by former sergeant" - sometimes they shoot at you before you can see them, even though I did not hear any shots this time - but the postmortem said "killed by something".

Maybe I'm just seeing things but the game (0.9.8.5) so far always reported such accidents according to whose shot detonated the barrel (I did "commit stupid suicide" some 7 times :).  What could have caused this message?

Probably the sarge was killed in the blast before you were, so when the game checked to see why you died it couldn't find the culprit (as when the game checked for it it was a smudge on the floor).

Did this occur close by acid or lava? Because if you push a barrel onto acid or lava, it explodes.

Or perhaps the explosions pushed you into lava or acid, and the damage from that at the end of the round killed you.

A replay could've cleared this one up :)

First of all, there was no lava nearby.  So far, sergeant dying first in the same wave of explosions seems the most probable.  It was very tight quarters, with barrels being very close to each other and the two nearby doors.

Second, how do I make a replay?

AFAIK it's automatic on certain versions.

Doesn't the computer keep a record of the last being to fire, to check what killed you? If that's the case, I doubt having the sergeant blown-up would matter.

Replays aren't available in DoomRL yet.  And there's no info on whether the program does keep track of what happened when, exactly, or whether it just pulls up information as it needs it (regardless of whether what would be really helpful has been erased before looking or not) AFAIK.

note, i liked the 97/98 versions death chart! i once, not knowing how a nuke worked, got myself fission-fried, and it said that one dead guy "forgot to read the manual" :) i think it was the "bomb manual"... i cant remember... oh well. btw, the something unknown thing needs to be removed!
