Angel of Death speed randomized?
Sylph:
Hi folks!
Was the angel of death's speed set to some random value in a recent version?
I just downloaded doomrl for a bash, got tot he cathedral, and lost all my large medkits before running out of the level without conquerer (which led to me quitting).
It seemed sometimes I could move 4 times before he stopped, other times 6, other times 11... Sometimes he'd move twice in the time I only moved once... It was really weird...?
Has this been changed recently?

I've looked at the source, doesn't look like anything has been changed about the move speed of the Angel of Death since 2012-11-28, at least from the data file perspective.
I'd source dive into the Pascal code if need be, but I think any code there is likely to affect everything else instead of only just the Angel of Death.

I thought this was a balance suggestion based on thread title.
Randomising Angel movespeed on spawn with an upper range slightly faster than HR2 Fin2 lets you kite would make cheese strats much less appealing.

My guess is that your movespeed was a really weird number with lots of decimals and the variance in number of moves the AoD got was due to which way the game engine rounded off the numbers. And depending on the attack speed of your Chainsaw, that might throw off those numbers even more, giving a wildly unpredictable movement pattern. Do you happen to remember your movespeed and attack speed?
I've outspeeded the AoD a few times and I've had that same experience. That's why, every time I try that strategy, I run a few laps around the Cathedral first to observe the AoD's movement patterns and see how long it takes for it to repeat. Sometimes, it goes a while before it does and then after I chainsaw it, it changes to a new movement pattern. Outspeeding the AoD is a strategy that needs a loooooot of patience. :)
tl;dr: I don't believe the AoD speed was changed. I think it's just wonky game engine effects.

Isn't the strategy to throw a knife at it and lap it 200 times to pick up the knife? :P More mindless but safer.
