They (System Shock and AliensRL) are alike in that ammo is a finite resource, have (or more accurately: Will have in AliensRL) hackable security stations and have the player as one lone military man against an alien horde.

However the System Shock series is very story driven and relies on the use of voice recordings, so unless you would make a complete port of it...

This is also not an original idea..If you look back in the forum archives I'm pretty sure that you will find a post of mine inquiring about the feasibility of a first person ASCII display.

I couldn't find your post, so I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but a first person ASCII display has been done in Text Mode Quake. Though I don't think an ASCII FPS is what Darwinism meant by "System Shock 2 Roguelike". ;)

Oh, for sure. I only mention the first person look function because I said something about ShockRL there..
