So after a year away from the game, I decided to load up the guns and storm the gates of Hell once more, motivated just a smidgen by finally learning the secret of the Dragonslayer. I went for easy mode due to being just a tad bit rusty at this game, and I went with an Army of the Dead boomstick build. How did it go, you may ask? Read on...

141 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 124 of those were killed.
And 6 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

 11 souls destroyed the Mastermind...
3 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
2 killed the bitch and survived.
6 showed that it can outsmart Hell itself.

--------------------------------------------------------------

It started out like a number of other runs. The shotgun was my workhorse through pretty much all of Phobos, and I built up a good stockpile of shells, armor (including a Duelist armor which I got off a particularly aggravating shotgun guy, and which I ultimately never used) and health, which I made room for by dropping my bullets and eventually my chaingun. I got my hands on Shottyman early during the assault on the Chained Court, the one that saw me fighting the Arena Master Archie. This combined with my second level of Badass (the first one being the first perk I picked up on start) got me through the rest of it with no muss, no fuss. The Military Base was the level that saw me assembling my Tac Shotgun (I've used that thing so many times, I could practically assemble it in my sleep), and after that was the Anomaly, where I did my corner-shooting thing against the Bruisers and came out almost unscathed.

Deimos saw me assembling two key pieces of armor -- the Nanofiber armor from the red armor I got at the Anomaly, and some Tactical Boots for speed. I also ended up power-modding another red suit, but stuck with the Nanofiber for most of my fights. I was reminded once again of why I love the Tac Shotgun -- there's nothing I love more than blowing zombies and Imps away in rapid succession with that thing, then unloading the whole mag into a Caco, a Hellknight or a Baron and putting its ass DOWN -- and when I got my hands on Army of the Dead, any armor the monsters were wearing wasn't much of a problem anymore. The main backpack area was the Containment Area, which saw me using the rocket launcher (with the built-in Shottyman bonus) to break through the wall before whipping out the boomstick and cleaning house on the Imps. Then I did a dumb thing and let myself get taken below 100 by a bunch of fucking assmunch demons before I could blast them all, necessitating a little pick-me-up with one of the two stimpaks that were near the entrance once I got rid of the demons and the imps before triggering the Hellknight ambush and grabbing the Backpack. I got the Firestorm Pack soon after getting my hands on the Backpack, which I used on my new Missile Launcher. Then came the Abyssal Plains, in which I very bitterly regretted not having a Double Shotgun to clear out those damned skulls with, as it ended up costing me a number of my health packs. The Halls of Carnage saw me very nearly leaving the BFG behind after getting to it, but I decided to grab it regardless, which would turn out to be a very good thing, before letting the lava take care of everything I missed. I used the missile launcher on the Cyberdemon for most of the main battle with it, just before using the boomstick to finish it.

Hell was where things really started to get aggravating. I had to pick my way through fucking lava, acid and lava barrels, not to mention having to fight asshole Hell Knights and Barons who weren't shy about exploding everything in sight, but the true aggravation wouldn't come until the Viles showed up. I hate Viles on a good day, but when you're also surrounded by other monsters that want to tear the living fuck out of you, it can make for a fucking nightmare. There were two levels in particular that saw me being fucking swarmed by Viles and Mancubi, who did their best to gangbang me with their fire and rockets before I was able to kill them all. Because of them, I lost my good power-modded armor and had to stick to the nanofiber for the rest of my run, and I was down to only a few of my health packs by the end. After Army of the Dead, my final perks went into Tough as Nails and Son of a Bitch, the former for some more armor, the latter for some more firepower.

I got the Butcher's Cleaver early on, but being as I was not a melee build, it was useless to me, and so I had to leave it behind. I dumped my chainsaw a bit later in order to make room for the Enviroboots, which I also had to leave behind at the end before Spidey. I wouldn't find the big bomb until one or two levels before Erebus, and I thankfully had an envirosuit on hand to make the trek through Ass Fry Central and blow away the skulls. I ended up using the BFG on the last Hellknight and the Lava Elemental, which destroyed everything except for Nyarlaptotep's Boots, which I equipped for the rest of the run. On the final level before Spidey, I dumped off most of what I didn't need, grabbing up all the health packs I could grab, then dumped some of my shotgun ammo (which I had a pretty sizable abundance of) in order to grab enough cell ammo to reload the BFG and have some spare on hand. After grabbing up the shotgun ammo again, it was on to Spidey.

Spidey, just like on my previous runs, got nuked straight to hell, and it was on to Carmack. My music this time around was Immediate's awesome "Tears of Blood". I opened up with the Tac Shotgun for a round of blowing through Carmack's summons and doing damage to him, but when he started summoning Hellknights, I busted out the BFG and cut loose. I needed about four big blasts with the thing to put Carmack down for good, and by the time I had to reload, Carmack was hauling out the Revenants, which meant he was on his last legs. One final BFG blast sent him into that big fucking Hellpit in the sky.

It's going to take me several more runs on both ITYTD and HNTR before I feel up for another big Berserker run. I will get the Dragonslayer one day. And when I do, my wrath against the creatures of Hell will be legendary.
