Assault rifle assembly problems?

Personally, I'm fond of the Burst Cannon assembly for Nuclear Plasma Rifles, (BBP) but only if I can take a level or two in Eagle Eye to counteract the accuracy penalty.  (Or maybe a Sniper mod?)  It can do pretty devastating amounts of damage and recharges quickly.
