Crash when trying out my graphics card
« on: December 30, 2019, 03:26 »

Since installing Jupiter Hell, I've been using the native graphics card for my computer, ("Intel(R) HD Graphics 630") and the "Vulkan" option that the game offers on startup has never worked.  (It would crash when I push "New Game")  Well, today, just for the heck of it, I decided to try taking the graphics card out of my old computer to see if it would work any better.  ("AMD Radeon HD 6450")  It still crashed when I tried Vulkan, but it did so on startup instead of new game.

It's kind of an old graphics card, so maybe it was never going to work, but I'll provide the crash reports here, in case there's some setting I forgot to adjust or something.  (It's possible that I need to bite the bullet and spend some money on a better graphics card)  :P

I tried running it three times, so I'll include all three crash reports.

Vulkan is completely unsupported on that Radeon. Later will make it so that if you run on an unsupported card the game will automatically switch to OpenGL - it should work on OpenGL if your graphics card drivers are up to date.

Speaking of drivers, it should work in Vulkan on that Intel card if you update your drivers! If it crashes on new drivers, we *really* want that crash log, as 630 is officially supported!

Huh...  whaddya know?  I tried it again and it did work.  Maybe something changed between JH versions?  (I hadn't tried it in a while)  It mostly runs smoothly, but every once in a while, some actions seem to load a little more slowly.  I'm not sure of a pattern yet.

Okay, I was just playing with Vulkan turned on again and it crashed...  at a very unfortunate time.  :(  I was playing UV Angel of Shotgunnery, and had just conquered Callisto Anomaly, and I was in the middle of picking up my rewards, which included an auto-shotgun with increased damage, autoloader, and vampiric, and there was also a freakin' shotgun damage amp!  :o  (Friggin' lucky drop for AoSh, eh?)  Needless to say, this was a pretty upsetting time for it to crash, since it wiped out the saved game, especially since this is the furthest I've gotten at this difficulty level in this challenge.  :(  (I had 100% kill rate up 'til that point too)

Hmph!
