Is there a way to reload weapons while NOT holding them?

Pigmonkey:
Say you have a weapon in your backpack (not in your hands or in your "equipped" setting and you want to reload it.  Is there any way to do so?  I say this because in the Pistol challenge, I can't switch to reload my supplemental weapon because "the gun sticks to my hand" (can't switch from the advanced pistol)

do a special reload (R) to reload both at once!
