Unhandled exception

Hi, I recently tried to play DoomRL and AliensRL, but all I get is this error as soon as I launch it:

An unhandled exception occurred at $0000000000590592 :
EInOutError : Invalid input
    $0000000000590592
This happens with both games, on both my desktop and laptop. Same issue with both the HQ and LQ versions of DoomRL. I tried compiling DoomRL on my desktop, but again, same error.

I run Debian 10 on both the desktop and laptop, with the laptop being pretty much ootb. I have just git and vim installed beyond what comes with Debian 10 XFCE.

Does anyone know what might be the issue?
