Hummm...
« on: May 08, 2007, 13:33 »

I gave the game a try, and I have a few questions:

- Can't we play it in full screen? (i'm using Windows Vista)
- When you run out of ammo, there's no way to attack (punches, kicks, knives...)?

Edit: No wait this isn't DoomRL. How embarrasing.

Dunno about Vista, but Ctrl + Enter works on Windows XP

Nope, there are no melee weapons.

I've tried Ctrl + Enter, but it does nothing.

Using the standard Alt + Enter makes an error box appear, saying "this system doesn't support full-screen". I have Vista and a 22'' widescreen monitor. I'm gonna try to set the resolution to a 4:3 format and see if that's the problem...

Edit: Doesn't work...

Errrr..
This is embarrassing. D:
Of course it's Alt + Enter on XP. Dunno why it doesn't work on Vista though.
Maybe some of the compatibility options will do the trick.

Vista doesn't support full screen DOS sessions. Have you tried running DoomRL in DosBox? If so, does it allow full screen?

Tried the compatibility options. No sucess.

AlienRL isn't DOS compatible, so it doesn't work with DOSBox. :(

Seems as Vista is not roguelike friendly ;/

Ouch. Sorry for posting with my eyes closed. :) Does Virtual PC support text mode Windows applications?

This is the first time I've heard Vista doesn't support text mode at all btw. Why on earth would they do that? Especially since text mode isn't specific to the OS but to the video card.

The use of long filenames in some of the sound-effect files means that using the HPUX DOS-extender (which runs Windows console apps in DOS) won't work: the game won't be able to find its sound files.
