Requests For Features / Re: Separate Sound Definitions for Assemblies
« on: February 08, 2017, 17:13 »
I came to the same conclusion, aaand that's why I'm here. :)
While I'm here, here is a mind-dump of other sounds I would love to see at some point in the future:
hit sounds for weapons
idle loops
chainfire activation sounds
chainfire loops
chainfire end sounds
Naturally, there should be an option to leave them blank to not give it a sound for those things.

Since I have your attention, is there currently any way to define separate alt fire and alt reload sounds? Because that's another thing I tried and couldn't get working.

Requests For Features / Separate Sound Definitions for Assemblies
« on: February 07, 2017, 20:54 »
After a long time away, I've finished making a sound pack and I'm about to set it free on the internet, but while typing up the readme, I lamented that Assemblies couldn't be given their own sounds, encouraging people to yell at the devs to make it so. Well, I'ma take my own advice and yell at the devs!
Many assemblies seem like they could fit with the old sounds, especially assemblies that affect a broad category, but some of them, like the Chainsword, shouldn't sound anything like their original! Inevitably, when these weapons end up sounding exactly the same as before, it feels like something's wrong. Something I'd like to see is have optional sound definitions for Assemblies, so that just in case they fundamentally change the properties of a weapon, we can adjust the sound effects to match.

Post Mortem / [H|Ao100|100%|100|YAAM] First Ao100 win - Entrenchment build
« on: July 25, 2015, 00:53 »
Angel of 100 has to be my new favorite way to play the game. I wanted to do a Sharpshooter UV Ao100, but then I realized I hadn't even beat the base game on HMP, let alone UV, so I dropped down to HMP and did an Entrenchment run, since I heard Rapid builds were best for Ao100, and I love the Technician class.
I got insanely lucky and found the Onyx armor on like level 10 or something, so I was basically all set armor-wise for the rest of the game. Once I got entrenchment and assembled the Onyx Cerberus + P, I was effectively a tank on two legs. I could stand out in the open, hit chainfire, and just take 1 damage from everything. The only time I came close to death was the Nightmare Demon cave, and THAT was totally my fault. I started the damn level with an Invulnerability orb right next to me and decided not to use it, and then the Nightmare Demons proceeded to drain 1 large health pack a turn from me until I found a corner. I know better now...
Once I found the Minigun, I turned it into a burst cannon and laid waste to everything. It was actually my backup weapon, since my primary firearm was my Nuclear Plasma Rifle. I wanted to turn it into a Nanomachic, but no Nano packs, and if there were, the VMRs probably blew them up. I kept the cells mainly for the BFG.
I could have had a Biggest Fucking Gun, but I was stupid and left both of the Firestorm packs I'd got, thinking I would never need them, not realizing those were part of the assembly. I lit level 99 on fire deliberately, since the switch was right next to the stairs, and I had cerberus boots anyway. There was a Cyberdemon on level 98, and I facetanked him just like everything else. Didn't find even one Nano pack, but I did find Dragonslayer. Couldn't pick it up, but that's all right. When I nuked level 100, everything was already dead. Wanted that 100% and had to be sure...
Best of all, this was the first game where I was using modded music (I added all the remaining Doom 1 tracks), and whose name do I roll? Bobby Prince. Mr. Doom Music himself. It was meant to be.

Modding / [Question] Any way to mod the sounds of individual uniques?
« on: July 22, 2015, 03:26 »
Title. I already know how to mod sounds in general, but most of the uniques are not in the soundhq file, and I'm not sure if I can mod every single one of them.
If so, how do I go about finding the names the game uses for them? I'm on a modding spree, and I'd like to give a unique sound to every single weapon if I can. If I end up finishing it, I'll share the results!

Post Mortem / Re: [M|AoB|100%|25|YAAM] First win! Nuked JC and MM!
« on: July 21, 2015, 18:30 »Angel of Berserk on HMP playing nearly every level for a full win and getting a 100% kill count? That's no mean feat, especially if this is your first victory - although I take it playing on UV all the time must have prepared you for the worst.
How did you tackle the early levels? And why did you wait so long until you took BRU 3?
I don't remember much about the early levels. I just remember deciding I wasn't going to suicide myself on Hell's Arena because I was playing AoB and didn't need to be fighting Demons on level 2. HNTR isn't so bad early on, though. Demons tend to not show up until after you get the chainsaw.
I honestly didn't think I needed Brute 3. I was almost constantly zerked, plus I had a piercing chainsaw and then I got the spear, so I felt like being able to keep 200% health and never ever get KB'd by Barons was doing more for me than another couple melee damage would.
I honestly think I must be a masochist, because all the play styles I find fun are also the hardest ones lol. Gotta give credit to DoomRL for making so many different ones possible though.
I might go for a rapid build on that Ao100 run after all. I love Sharpshooter runs, but because I do them so much, I never get to experience the sugar-sweet kiss of heavy ordnance, and let's be honest, pistol runs don't give you any NEW guns unless you get the Jackal or the Trigun.

Post Mortem / [M|AoB|100%|25|YAAM] First win! Nuked JC and MM!
« on: July 13, 2015, 21:55 »
After a very long time of trying way too hard to win on UV right away, as you'll see by how many marines of mine died, I decided to just play the game for fun and unlock Ao100. Skipped the Arena, cleared out everything else. I lucked out on E3M7, since there was an invulnerability globe right next to the staircase, so I got to use my nuke and my overloaded Nuclear BFG, which made Dis and JC oh so satisfying. I had been using the spear ever since I got it, I just forgot to re-equip it after I overloaded the BFG. I had the combat knife on me just in case I wanted to blow up barrels at range. Never did. Oh well.
Next goal, UV Sharpshooter Ao100!
