Wow did I mess this up. This run should have been in the bag by all rights. Finding a Super Shotgun in a vault before Chained Court?
Plenty of large med kits?
Fireproof Red Armor sitting in inventory, for exactly this occasion?
Lets check the mistakes:
Fought a mancubus while standing next to a wall.
Equipped Phaseshift armor for no real reason, when I had nearly full durability red P1 armor equipped.
Did not use healthkits in inventory.
Did not use phase device to exit disadvantageous fight.
Did not use envirosuit pack to boost fire resistance while fighting mancubus NEAR LAVA.
Things that went really well this run: Got SuperShotgun and envirosuit pack before the chained court, berserked up and charged the Arena Master while exploding Former Humans, stuck Super Shotgun into his face and popped envirosuit pack w/ blue armor and merc'd him before cleaning up the rest of the level.
Got 3 Power mods, and found a second Super Shotgun so I could potentially craft Plasmatic Super Shotgun AND nanoshrapnel Super Shotgun.
Military Base and Hell's Armory went very smoothly, as you'd expect with a super shotgun and/or a tactical shotgun.

This was awesome to watch, and a good reminder to not limit yourself to your Master trait weapon. As always, watching you play is a good reminder to be careful and efficient no matter how well supplied you are. Way to pull through with no medkits!

Thanks! Yeah, I won't be forgetting this one anytime soon. The full win is hidden in a spoiler! Its actually less interesting than this run was, but I wanted to brag about it, especially since I managed to get my first damage-less Arena clear on it. Stepped up my corner shooting game.
I will make sure to be better in my titles in the future.

Post Mortem / [M|98%|AoMr|YAVP/YASD] On Nukes and timing + First full win w/100%
« on: December 20, 2017, 05:33 »I finally experimented with the Technician class! The laptop I'm playing on has a really dark screen, so it was hard to use the tracking data to full advantage in the early game. I ate way too many shotgun blasts to the face early game, and actually ran out of health packs twice! Working my way through this, I felt like I had to skip most of the special levels. I feel like those would have been more achievable with dualgunner to boost the damage output of a pistol build earlier, but Sharpshooter felt fairly limiting early game for pretty great late game.
But enough commentary. Here is what I learned on this run:
9 turns of Invulnerability means 9 turns of invulnerability. Make sure you don't waste those on fast actions and blow yourself up like a dumbass
I nearly closed out right then and there when my invulnerability ended with 4 seconds left on the countdown.
Fun facts about Sharpshooter: a standard storm bolter assembly does more damage than the artifact Anti-Freak Jackal. Which made getting that late in the run rather anti-climactic.

Thanks for the tips! Honestly this was really helpful. I tried again after this run with a piercing chainsaw, and died again, this time with a hilarious drop in Hell's Armory. I was running with a Triggerhappy build and Ammochain, when I happened across the Jackhammer in one of the rare slots. The run turned into a pretty hilarious cakewalk until I died again in Unholy Cathedral, this time not underestimating the speed, but getting run-down after I ran out of med-packs by the demons.
I'm going to try again tonight with Berserk and Shottyman. Phobos anomaly runs getting real clean now that I've get the rocket jump and radar shooting for the Bruisers down.

Really good run, was on track to do my first conquerer run on Medium, first run after re-installing. I'd had really good luck and got an invulnerability globe just before Spider's Lair, so I had absolutely no trouble there. I also had a good time in Arena thanks to someone reminding me to radar shoot more, and using Run really well. I held onto my med-kits too long this time, trying to be efficient since I was worried about my stock going in to face Angel of Death. But I didn't realize I was getting hit twice per round in melee. YASD.

« on: May 06, 2013, 03:01 »My first Conqueror and Angelic Medals, plus Masochist Platinum and Destroyer Gold. Used shotguns for most of this, only switching to Plasma Gun for last few levels of Hell. City of Skulls and Spiders Lair were both pretty tough, due to enemies appearing from multiple directions. Fantastic fun :-)--------------------------------------------------------------

So this run is another failure on my attempts to move up a difficulty (up to Hurt Me Plenty) since I've gotten a few full wins. I was looking to get some silvers and some golds here, but no such luck.
This run was odd for a couple of reasons: I got to Phobos 5 before I got my first armor, but the RNG was generous with medkits. And from that point on, this would be what I would refer to as "the armor run". So much good stuff in terms of mod drops, assembled cerberus armor after dipping into Mortuary (mortuary suuuuuuuucks. Wasted a lot of ammo here) and then dipped into erebus to get my lava element, and see if I could get any additional armor exotics/uniques. Annnnnd I ran out of ammo. Just as lava element spawns. So I got stuck trying to punch him to death, without brute, and only one rank of SoB. I don't think I was actually doing any damage to him. I didn't think to put on Shielded armor for the melee resist until I had run out of Medkits. =( YASD.
The reason I got hell runner, dodgemaster, finesse and whizkid instead of MAD was another one of those odd things about this run. I could have sworn I was doing this as a scout, so when I picked the run up after I saved it, I just absentmindedly picked up hellrunner since I was getting hit a lot more than I would have liked. But that blocks.... ALL of the marine master traits (Except ammochain).

Wasted a lot of ammo here) and then dipped into erebus to get my lava element, and see if I could get any additional armor exotics/uniques. Annnnnd I ran out of ammo. Just as lava element spawns. So I got stuck trying to punch him to death, without brute, and only one rank of SoB. I don't think I was actually doing any damage to him. I didn't think to put on Shielded armor for the melee resist until I had run out of Medkits. =( YASD.
The reason I got hell runner, dodgemaster, finesse and whizkid instead of MAD was another one of those odd things about this run. I could have sworn I was doing this as a scout, so when I picked the run up after I saved it, I just absentmindedly picked up hellrunner since I was getting hit a lot more than I would have liked. But that blocks.... ALL of the marine master traits (Except ammochain).
Almost had cyberdemon head, but I messed up one of my sidesteps when he tried to close on me; I'll get it next time, I'm certain.

So this was my first run where I tried out rapid fire weapons. They don't really suit my playstyle, but I like them nonetheless. Thats probably because this run was full of stupid random luck.
First, check out which specials I did: No Deimos Lab, No Armory. I literally forgot to do that. So... no special mods for me.
Second, check out my ridiculous good spawns: I held onto 6 mods for 5 dlevels to make all of those assemblies; and didn't run into extras. I picked up BOTH of the awesome rapid fire weapons, and got good armor exotic(energy shielded vest is THE BEST). Finally, I didn't run into a nuke all game, yet got a lucky spawn off of vaults, got trigun.
Burst Laser Rifle is so good. SO GOOD. One shots hell barons. How bout dem apples?

You really should try AoSh as a scout, and build into gunrunner. One thing to note about shottyman with that build though, the move+reload action pulls from your inventory before it pulls from any equipped shell boxes, which can be really useful/frustrating(?).
Gunrunner+Shottyman allows you to compress moving, firing and reloading into just your move speed, so you can fire a shot every .47 seconds (or faster if you get antigrav/phaseshift) (this number is with Hellrunner level 2 and tactical boots, because why would you not build tactical boots?). Its really powerful.
BUUUUUUT, if you find the Jackhammer, you might want to not build gunrunner, and instead build Shottyhead, because jackhammer doesn't work with it. Hypothetically though, you could firestorm mod Jackhammer(Could someone confirm this?).
IMO, power in DoomRL comes from having really high action speeds, and good ability to dodge things.

This was a really good run for a few reasons: I found trigun early, and knew from exactly that moment on that this was going to be my first full win. I had 100% kills full through till limbo, which I ducked into primarily for the red armors. Buuuuut as it turns out, limbo is really intimidating? Thought I was gonna be able to YAAM on this one too, but due to my mistake with Limbo, no such luck.
And so I homing phased my way out of that situation, since I had a spare. I skipped the vaults, didn't want anything inside them, since my mod drops were crap all game, until I got to hell, and then there were common mod drops E'RYWHERE.
Ended up really needing that fireproof red armor, since I spawned a level of all revenants, mancubi, cacodemons and archviles right before dis.
Did erebus, got lava armor, lava element. Remembered to use envirosuits to reduce lava element and hell baron damage till I got berserk up and running.
Dropped into Dis, carefully activated lava element, activated angel arm, walked down the stairs. Stopped to admire the blood pattern on the floor. Killed the true evil. YAFW. The completion time is long on this because I didn't so much save as.... walk away from my computer.

« on: April 24, 2013, 04:31 »It's not that difficult to slay Spidey with MAD - the point is to get into her melee range ASAP, using sidestepping and running tactics. You'll take some hits for sure, but with a blue armor (or anything that grants plasma resistance or high protection, for that matter) it's easily survivable. Afterwards it's a piece of cake - her melee attack is extremely weak and she's immune to knockback, so unless she flinches and moves away from you, you're on the safe side of things.

I'm kind of impressed! You managed to kill mastermind with only a double shotgun. I personally have never managed to win with MAD; I like the scout method more, where you compress all your actions into your movement speed with gunrunner and shottyman for nearly infinite shooting.

Standard AoMr run up until this level, with the following exception: I had too many medpacs. I literally couldn't carry them all. I also found a ballistic vest early on. Really, this run was full of promise. Then I get to the Deimos Lab. I fight my way to the weapons, and what do I find? A combat pistol and a gorram pistol unique. The gorram Anti-Freak Jackal of all guns.
And then I die to the shamblers. Usually, I can focus one of them down with the storm bolter before finishing off the other one. That... didn't happen. I burned through 4 large medpacs before I died, and still had two left. I really gotta stop dying with medpacs in inventory.

I'm trying to do AoB right now on Hey Not Too Rough, but its not going so well. Any advice for doing Arena on AoB?
