Bug Reports / [0.9.9.7 Linux x64] Segfault on startup

Getting this when I try to run DoomRL:
Code: [Select]
Abnormal program termination!

Reason : Access violation

If this reason doesn't seem your fault, please submit a bug report at
http://forum.chaosforge.org/, be sure to include the last entries in
your error.log that will get created once you hit Enter.

Tile mode gets to the point of showing a loading window, but seems to hang at about 1/3rd loaded. Trying the 32-bit binaries for kicks gives the same set of errors as in this thread. I've checked my setup against this thread and all the libraries are installed.

The system is Devuan Ascii x64. Any ideas as to what's going wrong here? And did the source ever get released? Seems like it'd be worth just trying a fresh build since freenix binaries go stale so easily.

I tell ya what, the trick to AoLT is pistols and Son Of A Gun. 100 rounds per inventory slot makes balancing your inventory much simpler. The Necroarmor helped out in the final battle, too; not having to switch armors every few hits makes things a fair bit easier. I found the Phaseshift Armor as well, but...eh, no thanks. Overall, not as hard as I thought it was going to be.

I can't believe I finally beat AoMr. (I've only tried like a hundred times...) Most of what allowed me to survive was the fact that I found a vault with two red armors on level...3, I think, and a steady supply of red armors as the game progressed. Somebody up there liked me today. The loads and loads of large medkits didn't hurt either - the only thing I was running out of at any point was ammo! Also, I found an extended pistol later in the game to match my magazine-modded advanced pistol, which equals more shots per reload! My original plan was to nuke the Cyberdemon and run like hell, but I stupidly dropped the nuke instead of using it and he destroyed it with splash damage - I was entirely sure I was going to die, but I actually managed to beat him!

Off Topic / Roguelike question
« on: January 09, 2008, 21:27 »
So I'm trying my hand at writing a Roguelike. I'm using freeBASIC and the FBGFX library (imitates all the old QBASIC graphics functions.) Currently, I've got it running in 80x30 text mode - my question is this: should I take the time to convert it to 80x25 for potential console-mode compatibility, or should I just stick with 80x30? (I understand some DoomRL players are vision-impaired and use screen readers - how well do these work with graphically-represented text?)

Discussion / Remix(es) of choice?
« on: December 31, 2007, 16:25 »
I know at least a few people here wind up replacing the DoomRL soundtrack with MP3s of other music, but I personally prefer the original DOOM songs. My question is this: from which versions do you take your MP3s?

I, personally, use a mix of the default-recommended recordings from sirgalahad.org, the 3DO DOOM soundtrack (by all accounts the 3DO version's only redeeming feature,) and the Classic DOOM 3 soundtrack, plus the title theme from the SNES version:

d1end.mp3: sirgalahad.org
d1intro.mp3: SNES DOOM
d1readme.mp3: sirgalahad.org
e1m1.mp3: Classic DOOM 3
e1m2.mp3: Classic DOOM 3
e1m3.mp3: 3DO DOOM
e1m4.mp3: Classic DOOM 3
e1m5-e4m4.mp3: Classic DOOM 3
e1m6-e3m6.mp3: Classic DOOM 3
e1m7-e2m5-e4m8.mp3 3DO DOOM
e1m8-e3m4-e4m1.mp3: Classic DOOM 3
e1m9-e3m9-e4m9.mp3: Classic DOOM 3
e2m1.mp3: 3DO DOOM
e2m2.mp3: sirgalahad.org
e2m3.mp3: sirgalahad.org
e2m4-e4m6.mp3: sirgalahad.org
e2m6-e4m7.mp3: sirgalahad.org
e2m7-e3m7-e4m5.mp3: sirgalahad.org
e2m8.mp3: sirgalahad.org
e2m9-e3m1.mp3: 3DO DOOM
e3m2-e4m2.mp3: 3DO DOOM

Discussion / Weapon mod question?
« on: October 24, 2007, 09:56 »
Okay, so in previous AoM games, I've thrown something like D1R1S2 on my advanced pistol. This time around, I found one reload mod and then threw on three damage mods in Hell's Armory, but couldn't throw on a speed mod or anything else. I was under the assumption that "the weapon you're holding is already maximized with this mod!" meant that a particular kind of weapon had a limit of, say, two speed mods, one damage mod, and one reload mod for an advanced pistol, but now it seems as though it's just a limit of four mods and I have to pick and choose to get the best possible deal out of it. Is this correct?

Bug Reports / Death bug... [CLOSED]
« on: October 13, 2007, 13:39 »
I'm playing DOOMRL 0.9.8.7 on Windows, with sound. The game itself works just fine, but every time I die, it crashes after the post-mortem dump, emergency-saving my game - which wouldn't be so bad (free save-scumming!) except that it saves the player at whatever negative health death occurred at, so restoring from the emergency save results in another emergency save. So it's not a crippling bug, but it's an annoyance.

Line 335 of doombase.pas and line 19 of doomrl.pas are the filenames and line numbers it gave me.

(Did I do it right? First time reporting a bug here.)
