Can't really figure it out: what's the green orb in front of the marine?
Thanks Game Hunter, The orb is actually a nuke that I shrunk in the program I used to create these shots. I wanted it to be something that he could actually carry on him.

« on: March 07, 2011, 23:48 »There's a great utility out there called dropbox that lets you download a small application to drag and drop your files to an internet hosting site (after you create an account).
Their program even includes a "Public" folder, which you can use to automatically generate links to the items you're hosting.
When you sign up, you get 2 gigs of storage. If you wanted to join and get an extra 250MB, you could use this link. Yes, it would also give me free storage as well. It's just that awesome. ;)
P.S. If you prefer, you could just use it online, but the desktop client is just so simple to use.

Last week I found myself thinking about the Angel of Marksmanship challenge of DoomRL and wondered if I could capture the feel of it in the renders I do in my spare time.

« on: July 22, 2009, 15:49 »You got a good idea, and it's got a point because it's usual for people to see very few mods of one type (one game i saw 2 magazine mods and 8! boots protection mods). Nevertheless you're overdoing it. I would just take what's already in the game and consolidate it:

Damage/Protection +1 damage die +1 Protection +2 Protection
Reload/? -20% reload time ?? ??
Speed/Mobility +10% fire speed +10% move speed +10% move speed

Reload -> Recovery: -20% knockback (armor/boots)
Accuracy -> Lightweight: +10% dodge (armor/boots)
Not a bad start. I agree, that it gets frustrating sometimes having to decide what to grab a what to leave. Consolidated like this, I'd just have to fret about where to use them.

« on: July 22, 2009, 15:28 »1) I was wondering, how come our super-futuristic space marine doesn't use a helmet and a visor? I postulate that in future releases of DooM RL there should be an inventory slot for a helmet and a visor. What will be benefits/drawbacks?
Helmet:
First of all, wearing a helmet reduces a chance that monsters will score a critical hit on you. Also they grant you some minor protection. However, wearing heavier helmets tend to reduce your perception, they slow you down a bit and even reduce your accuracy. There is even a prototype helmet from UAC, that grants user with great protections, but reduces the line of sight by two...
Visor:
Visors are important piece of marine's equipment. By using special filters, marine can see objects much sharper. It allows to spot enemies in camo much easier. More advanced visors grant user with infrared vision, making it easier to target in dark places (something like intuition, but the area is LoS + 2 spaces)
2) You might be arguing, that visors are something really powerfull. Well they, are. For example, somebody finds a visor, that increases his LoS and grant the smaller intuition. Since I have greater LoS, why the hell should I invest in Cat Eyes? I have smaller version of intuitions. Not only that, visors improved my accuracy.
Imagine a player that has found a visor and invests in other traits. On lower levels of hell, visors get destroyed. What now? We have a marine without Eagle Eye, wihtout Cat Eyes who barely can hit his enemy.
He will quickly get butchered by Arch-viles.
Still to powerfull? Make monsters more powerfull.
3) Not Doomish? It is Doomish!
Sweet. Maybe have it show less in the direction you came from.

A strong melee weapon, but it requires precious power cells to function. And you need to reload it every so often.
Tornado (Double shotgun)
Damage: 7d6
Ammo Capacity: 4 Shotgun shells (consumes double as much as a regular double shotgun)
Fire time: 1.0 sec
Reload time: 3.5 sec <---- so it hits hard, but takes forever to reload. Definitely something to pop around a corner, shoot, duck back into cover, reload.
Not too sure of that blade...

Well, you'll be only once in hell so.....
Pros: Your sight range is increased by 2
Cons: You move 20% slower and can't run (hellruner 2 would return to normal speed, but still you can't run)
Unlocks the Phobos Hell Tourist T-Shirt, "I singlehandedly averted the Apocalypse and all I got was this crappy shirt". 2 point regenerating armor that's so bright and loud Hell's legions suffer a miss chance for just looking at it.
That's just nuts.
