It varies. Some games do black it out while others don't. The Source games like L4D2 doesn't black out the screens but on average more games do black out the other screen for what I assume are performance reasons. Whether it is a trivial toggle or not, I don't know.

Thanks for looking into this request all the same.

It pretty much says it in the title. I like to play on full screen, but I sometimes don't want the other monitor to black out because I have something else running on it. The current work around is to run it in window mode.

Discussion / Re: Opinions on new special levels needed!

So far the new levels have been lots of fun. The difficulty is about right. Still haven't played some of the higher end special levels like limbo or Erebus. Could cut down on the ambushes though.

I am surprised that I am even visiting, let alone posting seeing I can't even play the game right now since I haven't installed any emulation/parallel software since I am on a Mac.

The other problems is that nothing new has been released for more than a year and the front page's latest post is a still alive post. It would help if you merged all the games into one site and made even fleeting progress reports.

I did like it better when updates to the game was made in a more piecemeal manner, but that is just me.

I would favor a "Stimpack" that raises your HP to 200% but you lose 200% (maybe 250%) health over time and it can kill you. It's a stimpack. It doesn't heal you, but lets you keep going until you can find some real medical attention.

Here's something that hasn't been represented yet. Grenades. Not just any grenades, flash Grenades/breaching charges. There are always times where you know there is a ton of monsters behind a door and there's not other way other than to tough it out. Maybe not anymore. Attach one of these to a door and blow it. The door explodes releasing blinding light and sound just on the other side of the doorway stunning everything in line of sight for a couple of seconds depending on distance.

Must be diagonal to the door to use so you don't blind yourself.

Self stacking single use item. Stack of 20.

Pros, helps to clear out mini vaults while keeping the items intact. Does not use a weapon slot.

Cons, can't throw them, doors only, also door is destroyed.

You could use this on a door in an open area, but that would be pretty stupid thing to do.

Oh do calm down. While I don't want every pop culture item popping up, his post was well constructed and his items detailed. Seeing that 99% of these posts won't be used, you had nothing to fear in the first place.

Angel of Zombie Apocalypse

There's only one of them right?

The first level starts off with one Former Human Zombie. The next level, it's double that to two. The next level is double that to 4. So on and so on. 1 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256 512 1024 2048 4096. Drops are normal, no special levels. Depth to be decided Kornel and the limits of the game. Stairs doesn't appear until all zombies are dead. Difficulty only affects the timing and ratio of the zombie types also maybe depth. If there isn't enough space in the level, they spawn in out of line of sight as space becomes available.

Pros

They are only zombies right? Former humans, sergeants, captains and commandos.
Ammo aplenty from drops.
No cyber.

Cons

No special levels.
Holy cow there are a lot of them.

Difficulty. Easy to Extreme dependent on depth

The game is hard enough as it is without having to worry about broken weapons and items. Having to waste time identifying items would take away from the arcady experience. The RNG is pretty unfriendly as it is. If you can't even have your base weapons to perform as expected you would be making the game based way too far on the luck side of things oppose to the fairly skill based play now.

Pre-0.9.9 / Re: [M|95%|YASD] - My first "good" run
« on: May 09, 2009, 05:58 »
Hells Arena is pretty much a must including Ultra Violence. The big thing is that it nets you a RL early and you gain a LVL a little quicker. With the RL you can bust open Chained Court for the extra items which are sometimes unique.

The Wall will get you killed unless your ready. Multiple large med packs and armor are a must. Bring multiple weapons. Have chain, plasma, RL at least so instead of reloading, just keep shooting especially if you have juggler. If you have a unique like Missile Launcher or Jackhammer it is a lot easier. BFG if you have it, but it trashes your cover by blowing away too much of the wall. On UV, be prepared to kill the same guy 3 times as the Viles will make any advance as bloody as they can. If your empty use run and take cover to reload. Try not to reload in the open. If you see a vile gun for him. On anything lower than UV there isn't any viles. As nice as the backpack is, you don't need it to win.

I avoid the Mortuary as the reward is nowhere near the trouble you have to deal with. If you want a BFG, you can get one in the Halls of Carnage or sometimes Hell's Armory. You should run both those since they are relatively easy and for most part you can control the engagement. The Lava pit is surprisingly easy on UV if you use a weapon with knock back you just burn the Revants. You must have 2 environment suits though.

AliensRL / Re: AliensRL 0.8 Beta 2

The 9MM is still quite impressive even if you don't have master for it. Master allows you to cap elite inside 6 shots while you shouldn't try it at lower levels. The key is the right weapon for the right target.

.44 does appear in other towers, but it appears in quantities so low it might as well not be there. It's great in the supply tower. You can use it all you like in there and most of the time your pick up would be greater than your burn rate.

The combat shot gun is no replacement for the Pulse rifle. Great during the lower levels, but it's has zero penetration rendering it useless against workers you would no doubt set off. The workers aren't directly dangerous to your health, but they suck up a lot of ammo or a nade for little gain. That is dangerous in itself. No 12g is going to replace my love for my caseless armor piecing explosive rounds.

Elite show up well before you find a smart gun and enough ammo for it. That's if your willing to sacrifice protection for the Gyro rig. You will need some AP ability and the .44 isn't going to cut it in the long run without you running out of ammo for it or burning up a lot of your primary on juveniles of which there are massive number of. You also have to take into account that readying your heavy weapon takes a massive amount of time. Sure what ever you point that thing at is going to die but they will be all over you before you can whip it out. Switching to the primary isn't that bad, going to sidearm is effortless.

You don't need to master sidearm, but you do need to bring it up to the highest level your class will support just so you have a rabbit gun to shoot the small stuff with from juveniles, warriors (Not too many now) and the odd singular hunter at sufficient range. It falls to the 9MM just because it is so common in every other tower and you can pack 400 rounds. If you like to wander in low light in supply tower where you can use the .44 then that's great. The only time I go to supply tower is for supplies and I never stick around. Too easy to get jumped.

You just have to remember that every shot made is a shot lost forever since unlike DOOMRL, Aliens aren't your fleshy ammo bags. You can't kill them all and the only way to be sure is to nuke them from orbit.

First thanks you for making both DOOMRL and ALIENSRL, as incomplete as they maybe. I won't badger you with suggestions/bugs (skarczew covered the ones I noticed) Kornel, but I would like to request for both games a OSX version. However it isn't a really a biggie as far since these games use so little power I can run them in Virtual PC (However DOOMRL music is terrible since in plays really slow). Both work on something as low as a 400 MHz PPC.

As for the 9mm VS .44 I go 9MM, just because it is at least 20 times more common and the only real place you can use the colt is inside storage tower since that is where it spawns. Also the performance of the .44 is nowhere near enough to compete with the 9MM once you take in to account how much ammo you can carry for each. To cap a juvenile, it on average still takes 2 shots of either guns, same for hunters, but the colt does do slightly better against warriors. 400>150 Hard to argue. I switch to colt so I can rebuild my 9MM. However it does have it's early uses as a light armor pricer until you get a M41-A pulse rifle to replace the terrible MP5.

If you really want more Colt ammo, just burn off the 9MM until you build the .44 up again. walking around with ZERO ammo for any of your active weapons is a bad idea. ALIENSRL is more of a resource management game than DOOMRL. Since you don't have to deal with inventory, there is no penalty for carrying ammo you can't use other than the fact you can't/don't use it. By switching your sidearm back and forward you can save a lot of your more powerful weapons for when you really need it. Hell, switch to the sawed off and rebuild both 9MM and .44 however you only want to do that on the lower levels since that weapon is only surpassed in it's awfulness by the MP5.

One last message for Kornel. Don't listen to your fans base too much. You have a keen sense for game design and even though both games are incomplete, they are surprisingly fair and balance(There are always BS deaths...). Looking forward to your next release.
