Requests For Features / Re: New unique items
« on: June 23, 2014, 08:30 »
An idea from Pixel Dungeon: if you die and respawn, you lose all the inventory.
Probably it will be left lying at the "death" location. This should make a pretty pitiful respawn, especially if a Hell Baron picks up your spare Red Armor [N] and 6 Large Medkits. You might wish you died instead :-E

One in a row of AoHu attempts looked like a dream run.
Somewhy I tend to do them with handguns, though this is probably a bad idea, until you're at SoG4.

Red Armor + Power mod make AoHu so much easier. I managed to win Arena and Court, Phobos Lab was easy, chose not to confront arachnos and Shamblers in a  Deimos Lab, and then I found IT. The Beretta. It looked like a perfect luck.

Invulnerability Sphere + graphics version (and my stupidity in the first place) on level 12 did me a disservice: I eliminated a cluster of daemons in a daemon cave on L13, and descended deeper... only that was a Spider's Lair entry. Didn't see red in black/white, didn't read the name, didn't take time to consider a starting position and recognize the layout.

Somehow I tended to continue shooting not even thinking to escape and that the level layout seemed familiar... and voila, invulnerability eroded, and I'm dead in one turn.

How do you keep a cold head? I find that I die when I become too involved, fall to basic reflexes and lose track of something. This keeps happening to me in DoomRL and every other game.

Probably I should never try gambling.

Do you have any solution in mind?
Will separating results by game version do?

Going to take a shot at this one.

Currently having a reasonable bash with a Sharpshooter... nearly actually have the trait. Not sure exactly how I'm going to do the anomaly - probably will die in a fire.

Quickly retreating behind the first door works fine, it will take you down from 150% to 70% IIRC. Phase device might also help, even if it throws you to Bruisers. Faster boots help like always.

I will, when I'm back at that computer.
Actually, that's what I did - ran a x86 version on a 64bit save.
My assumption was that,as player.wad and score.wad are platform independent, so save file is too.

On a netbook with 1G RAM, DoomRL crashes trying to read my Ao100 save file. Luckily, I had it in my Dropbox (only to move between computers!).
Here's the error:

The screen goes black, but the music continues to play.
As per top, the game only takes 400M of memory, with about 400 more available.

Post Mortem / Re: [M|AoMC|100%|YAFV] Time for HMP.
« on: September 25, 2013, 03:09 »
I can add that after three runs as Technician aiming for Sharpshooter, I've died thrice on the last Hell Knight in Hell's Arena on HMP. This'll take some getting used to :P
Sharpshooter has the hardest beginning among pistol builds, due to low damage. And might be not worth it, Scavenger or masterless Dualgunner is not worse.

Bug Reports / Re: Pushing barrels paints a floor
« on: September 03, 2013, 09:58 »
Aren't there only 2 floor types a barrel can be pushed onto?
I don't think a specific barrel layer is less hacky: it's a whole new data structure, it requires separate maintenance (both at run time and in coder's time), and it won't be exposed to Lua.

Bug Reports / Re: Pushing barrels paints a floor

That's a quickfix I thought about. Make several types of barrels (barrel-on-floor, barrel-on-bridge) and change them on the go.

Bug Reports / Pushing barrels paints a floor

I pushed several barrels across a bridge, and one barrel started to paint tile it was on into a tile it's being moved onto.

Does
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
count as knife? I know it sounds stupid, but I don't want to spoil a medal.
edit: Looks like it does not, as I didn't get my Strongman Gold, not even Silver :((( And I never held anything but a knife, except for breaking a wall in The Vaults.
Or was it because some enemies died from a friendly fire/barrels/lava?

Post Mortem / Re: My first Cyberdemon encounter
« on: July 31, 2013, 04:15 »
Four envirosuits?? At most you can carry one or two and you should be fine. Maybe two for Hell, but you definitely don't need four.
Envirosuit also ups your BODY resistances a little, so it could have helped against Cybie.
And, BTW, Lava Pits.

I *love* cybernano armor, but will probably never build it again, because I'll never find the components in a normal game, and I'm holding out hope for the Apostle on 666 =P
You're not playing a Scavenger?
