Announcements / Re: ChaosForge Donation Drive!
« on: October 29, 2012, 22:12 »
I'd love to donate, but I refuse to do business with Paypal anymore due to an assortment of bullshit. Plus, I can't use my account anyway without uploading information I have no way to upload.
Are there any other options?

Discussion / Re: Doom the Roguelike: The Album All-In-One Mega Thread
« on: October 07, 2012, 02:41 »
It *was* in this topic? Weird. Could've sworn I read through every post. Clearly not. Thanks for digging it up.
Truth to be told, you don't need any kind of awesome software to create; All you need is enough inspiration and persistence to make a 30-second, four-instrument loop that doesn't suck. Later, when you improve so much that you grow out of your tools, you will know what you need to replace them with. The problem with that (and the reason for asking) is that I've never had the first idea what programs are worth using even to start with. Yeah, one could test their look with a random program from a Google search, but finding a program doesn't necessarily mean you'll find one that's worth fucking around with; if you have no experience with something, you're not going to have the first clue what is and is not necessary for adequate results.

I've been wanting to try making some music of my own, and I was wondering what program you use. I distinctly recall you answering this very question somewhere, but it's not in this topic...

I've done one, back in 0.9.9.3 - No mods, no specials, pistols only.
Not something I'd do often, obviously, but it can be amusing from time to time.

I suck, so when I play I still go back and forth between HNTR and HMP.

I never had any issues like that, with half your RAM and a weaker processor, but the graphics mode in particular is very CPU-hungry, yes.
Does it run better for you in the console (text-based) mode, or does it have the same problem there? And what operating system are you on?

Requests For Features / Re: New mortem mentions for nuking special levels
« on: June 21, 2012, 22:39 »Hell's arena: "Fair play meant nothing to him."Can we give each version of the Chained Court a different nuke message? If so, this comment may work better for CC, note the level exit text.
Chained Court/Arena Master: "The demons didn't play fair. Neither did he."

Requests For Features / Re: The Third Slot
« on: May 12, 2012, 02:08 »The main difference between them and the Technician is that there'd only be one level for the ability, that being 'on'.No, the main difference is that Technicians would gain nothing at all from this trait. Scouts can still take Hellrunner and get speed boosts, Marines can still get extra HP from Ironman.
(which may be what you're trying to say, maybe not, can't make assumptions)

Requests For Features / Re: Universal installator
« on: May 10, 2012, 02:30 »
I would guess the main reason for the distinct downloads is filesize and bandwidth. A combined installer would have to be somewhere around the size of the high-quality version anyway, likely bigger barring oddities of compression, thus negating the advantage and primary purpose of the two versions - indeed, making the bandwidth issue even worse when dealing with people who would otherwise only bother installing the low-quality version.
But keep in mind, that's just speculation.

Requests For Features / Re: Challenge modes ideas - old and new.
« on: May 05, 2012, 21:40 »Angel of Roulette
There would be a lot of kinks with new challenge effects being applied, for example Light Travel and Impatience kicking in when a bunch of stuff is already in your inventory.
Light Travel: Inventory locked except for a random five slots.
Impatience: Can't use items from inventory.

Requests For Features / Re: Masterless class
« on: May 01, 2012, 22:25 »
here's my thought, starting from broken's suggestion.
Instead of "upgrade", how about further specialization or creative alternate abilities. That way the original classes still get some use.
For example, the Guerilla - An ambush specialist. Your first attack on any enemy does bonus damage. Barrels do more damage, except to you. Trait list would probably be based on the Marine, but at least one swap - MFA instead of MAD.
Edit: Although we have gotten a bit off-track from the Masterless suggestion....
Ultimately, though, I think this ties in to the criticism of the "upgraded" classes - very few people would bother with it if it didn't have some sort of bonus or advantage.

In other words, he's the doomguy we had before all these Technicians, Scouts, and Marines started clogging things up with their Gun Kata and their Ammochains and their Malicious BladesCateye was in before the master trait system though. >_>

Well, if that's the case, the ones I went to are listed there - Chained Court, Halls of Carnage, City of Skulls (ITYTD; no Pain or Agony Elementals), Spider's Lair. Let's see if we can narrow it down from here.
Unrelated annoyance in that run: I found the Blaster and Jackal on the same level, in a Strongman Silver run. FFFFF-
