Discussion / Re: Doomrl Guide
« on: April 22, 2019, 02:22 »
As long as we're talking about artifacts from older versions, the "monsters clump in the center of the map" thing was patched out in one of the later versions. I can confirm they don't do it anymore in 0.9.9.7. Nice guide, though. I'm learning a lot. The shooting through doors thing is blowing my mind.

Thank you for not doing that. This is such a wonderful resource. It would be a shame if such a thing were necessary.

I think the first build order is better as well, but my personal favorite path to MSs is SoG->SoG->EE->SoG->EE->EE->MSs.

Both. Tiles are much more bearable once you alter the configuration file to make them twice as small.

I've found like 3 dragonslayers and even more berserker armors. I honestly didn't know it was that rare. I always just leave them because I think it's stupid as hell that no one can figure out how to pick it up and the information about how to do so is censored.
Haven't found any since 0.9.9.6, though.

I seriously don't know how people get diamond badges. My first diamond is probably going to be from getting uniques..

I find that the shamblers are at least doable with pistols, unlike shotguns.

This is the best use of a shockwave pack I've ever seen. Read this post and the next one.

Discussion / Re: Corner shooting oddities
« on: April 09, 2013, 21:07 »Not counting AIs that will blindfire you like cybie, I only know of this happening in some uncommon but not unheard of scenarios involving multiple doors and shotguns. We tried to fix it once :/
It's not just shotguns. It's everything. You're right that it only seems to happen through doorways, but it can happen through a single door. An easy way to test this is to open the leftmost door in the Military Base and corner shoot from it. You'll get shot at by former humans you cannot see.

show enemies LOS (something telling you, at least, if a particular monster can see you would be a great improvement)
The graphical version has this already. It's not accurate though.

I consider corner-shooting to be the mechanic that makes it unique from other roguelikes.

Good point, though a master before anomaly sounds a bit tight. You might be limited to UV and N! for that.

Congrats! I've been playing for more than a year and have yet to get an N! win. You might want to check out Gunrunner. It sounds like it would fit in with your strategy quite nicely (and especially with the elephant gun).

I feel like there must be something laughably fundamental I am missing.
How is it possible to release the Shambler before a nuke goes off? I thought the only way to survive a nuke was to be invincible, but it seems incredibly unlikely, if not impossible, for you to be invincible during that. (Maybe if you're a Marine with an invincibility globe right next to the stairs to the Armory...)
