Discussion / Re: Soooo... AoMr in 0.9.9.7
« on: April 05, 2013, 12:18 »I don't like bullet dance, but a masterless marine pistol build has never failed me.
I like to go SoG->SoG->DG->SoG->Fin->Fin->WK->WK->EE->EE->Int->Int->SoG->SoG->
Make storm bolters and blow everything away. Alternatively you can get EE and Int2 before WK, getting a bit more safety earlier.
I also favor masterless pistol builds, I think.
My ideal is more like
SoG->SoG->DG->SoG->EE->WK->HR->SoB->SoB->SoB->WK->EE->SoG->SoG
I don't see the point of going masterless if you don't plan to stack SoB and SoG.

I have almost no experience nuking various levels. If you nuke the armory, do you still get the goodies?

Yeah, I hate when Deimos Labs spawns instead of the Armory. :\ It just means I get gypped out of a schematic.
The only time I have ever found a schematic in Deimos Labs was in a UV game; it gave me an advanced assembly.

Post Mortem / Re: [M|AoMC|YAAM] Sooo satisfying to beat the game with guns for once...
« on: April 03, 2013, 12:28 »
The Mastermind was nerfed so horribly in 0.9.9.7. It's trivial to beat her now with almost anything. Especially with int 2. Also, in AoMC, you don't have to worry about accuracy or damage, so switching guns is more viable.

Don't allow any badges from dual angel games except for balanced combinations.

« on: April 01, 2013, 14:05 »We can just nerf badges from Dual-Angels, except for the Angelic stuff. Some people want a challenge, but none of them said anything about wanting to cheese their way to achievements, no?* thelaptop grins evilly
I think this is the best approach.

Discussion / Re: Oh dragonslayer why do you taunt me

Most bulky armor has hefty -movespeed. It usually has high melee resistance to compensate. There's nothing wrong with that. You can just stand there and tank their melee attacks while you attack them.

My question is why does the player get credit for those kills? It makes no sense.

The nice thing about GCB + MSs is that the single-shot mode does knockback but the others don't. Knockback on the 6x burst can't be very good for the DPS, I imagine. You definitely do not need knockback when your firing time is 0.09s. :P

So yeah, I was looking through the badges, looking for a game where I could pick up a bunch of golds for the major rank. I decided to get three of them in one run: beat Hell's Arena on U, beat AoMr on U, and 100% a U game. After winning, I was pleasantly surprised that there is a platinum badge for 100%ing U AoMr, so I got Major instantly.
I totally meant to pick technician and pick up some whizkid, but as you can see I picked a scout, so I decided to stack SoG and SoB instead. Gotta say, I really like the feel of masterless pistol. I think it is actually better than all three masters, although I did run into an ammo problem in hell -- Got like 3 caves in a row and couldn't vile farm for ammo for a long time. One of the caves was a pain elemental cave, which drained my ammo terribly. So MSs definitely has ammo conservation going for it.
Surprisingly, Hell's Arena went pretty smoothly. I got lucky with spawns. I had a close call in CC+, though. And for some weird reason, I felt buff enough to take on dual-shamblers. I prevailed, but I lost all my medpacks and armors! Other than that, the only close call I had was in a demon cave:
I spawned surrounded by tons of them. Couldn't kill them fast enough. If I hadn't found a ballistic shield a couple floors sooner it would have been ugly.

Discussion / Re: Trouble with Anomaly? Rocket jump! Wait what?!
« on: March 29, 2013, 13:22 »
Are you absolutely sure about the door thing? I'm almost positive I've done it since 0.9.9.7. I'll have to test it some more. Come to think of it, I may just be confusing runs I've used a phase with runs I've rocket jumped. Don't mind my idiocy. :P

You know, I always preferred to jump back to the first room, but lately I discovered jumping to the other door is way better. It's closer — you're guaranteed to actually get past the door. Going the way you came, you can get swarmed again before you get to the doorway.
Remember that you can close the door and the stuff that is in there (in most difficulties, anyway) can't open it back up. So you shouldn't need access to the health globes anyway. (As long as you open the far door with bullets, you'll be able to close it again later. Don't use rockets. :) )

Discussion / Re: Nightmare! difficulty not Accessible to slow players
« on: March 28, 2013, 23:02 »I'm disappointed that something that even a couple of supporters would want is simply non-negotiable, but fine. I won't ever bring the subject up again.
I definitely wouldn't want the developers to kowtow to everything supporters want. That'd be a good way to ruin the game. I think the game is great, and I was perhaps a bit too negative earlier.
Does anyone know if you can alt-tab out of the game and then put your computer in sleep mode and then resume your game when you un-sleep your computer? That would be a good workaround for me.

Disappointing. :(
I expect to fight the game, but I didn't think fighting the developers would be part of the difficulty of N!
If someone wanted to cheat they would just run DoomRL in a VM and save/load entire game states. Or use a hex editor to make themselves invincible.
