This was an incredible game. There were several times that I thought I would die for sure, including every single special level. I got the worst possible spawns throughout the entire game, but fortunately the RNG provided enough powerups to keep me alive. I found both a bullet-proof vest and an energy-shielded vest early on, then stupidly managed to waste them on enemies they were useless against. I didn't get any reliable armor after that until well into Deimos, as I kept losing it to horrible situations. But after I managed to get a bunch of B-modded red armors, I was basically set.

I completely forgot I was immune to lava and kept wasting inventory space on envirosuits. I even left some medpacks behind because of that. I also found a lot of unique and exotic weapons, none of which I could use. Meanwhile, the weapon I did want (the plasmatic shrapnel double shotgun) kept eluding me until it was already way too late. By the time I got the sniper pack it was actually a downgrade, but I really wanted to get the assembly. The Lava Armor came a bit too late as well, but it did save my ass on level 23 where every single enemy spawned in a single room next to me and it served well against JC too.

I almost forgot to nuke the Mastermind too. I was all set to duke it out with her when I remembered I was going for a full win. That would have been embarrassing. JC was actually fairly easy and his summons did more damage to him than anything else. I barely saw any Viles throughout the game, the only two I encountered were right before Dis. That probably helped a lot.

Yes, and if this was an FPS you could dodge the enemies' shots in real time instead of having to wait your turn. The advantages and disadvantages of each format balance out.

Removing them based on difficulty is silly, yeah, but Iron Skull in particular needs either a large numerical change or removal simply because the only way to get it is to hang around in City of Skulls/Abyssal Plains for a few hours as a Vampyre marine. No skill or even luck involved, you just play for 4-5 hours and you get it.
Okay, that's true. I never even thought about Iron Skull before. That really needs to change.

That's only really useful with a shotgun with a focused or normal blast though and it can backfire horribly if there's an enemy just outside your LOS.

Not a big fan of corner shooting. Depending on build, it can eventually become unnecessary, but then that's generally because eventually you start laughing at everything in sight.  But before that, it's just too strong, skewing things in favor of damage/speed traits even more than they already would be. Oh well.
So then what would you suggest? Cornershooting is one of the two main mechanics that let you avoid getting hit and the other one (running) is purely luck-based unless you get Dodgemaster every game. I for one don't like the idea of a DoomRL where you are forced to duke it out with every enemy.

The problem I see here is that medals have very variable difficulty. Some are intended to be fairly easy to get and some will only ever be achieved by the top players, while some are simply luck-based. I honestly have no problem with any of them. I know I will likely never get the Hell Arena Pwnage Medal or Thomas' Medal, but that doesn't make me want to get rid of them because they were never intended for me. Similarly, I will probably never have the patience for Gambler's Shield, but that doesn't make it any less valid.

So no, I don't think any medals need to be removed.

I don't get what's "overpowered" in AoB.
Melee is probably completely OP, I guess, but what does AoB give that a normal game wouldn't ?

For me, the zerk proc on lare health globes pickup is negligible, and so is the guaranteed combat knife in entryway, so only starting stuff & Hell's arena's reward really differ. (and HA isn't the best place to go, in AoB :)
Am I missing something else ?

Sacrificing the ability to use any ranged weapon for a blue armor & 2 large packs might be worth it, but doesn't seem overpowered to me.
Well, here's the thing. Melee is already obscenely good for damage and it frees up a lot of inventory space that would otherwise be used to hold ammo and extra guns. Its only downside is that you have to go right up to enemies to kill them, giving them a chance to hurt you from range. The starting blue armor and large medkits mitigate this for the first few levels, until you can stock up on more armor and healing. The guaranteed combat knife also gives a huge boost to your early DPS, since you probably won't be exploring the first few floors fully and may not find another knife on them. As for the berserk boost from large health globes, however short it is, it adds to your berserk counter, which means you get to spend more turns zerking.

Yeah, so AoB is still overpowered as fuck. I only had to spare some lives on the second floor and inside the Vaults (I only had two phases). I decided against entering Hell's Arena because it spawned on the second floor and the Containment Area because there was nothing for me there. I also somehow managed to miss the Spider's Lair or the Halls of Carnage (don't know which one it was, I didn't even see the stairs), despite clearing out the entire floor leading to them. I got a ton of mods, but after a while I just honestly didn't know what to do with them so I started assembling random shit.

Actually, have armors and berserking been nerfed? It feels like armors lose durability much faster than in the previous version and berserking doesn't last nearly as long. I don't mind the zerking nerf if it even exists, but armors feel kinda useless now, since a Baron can get even a red armor down to <25% in just two or three shots from 100% even if i'm berserk.

Anyway, here's the mortem. The "2 brave souls ventured into Phobos" thing is just because I deleted and then redownloaded the game yesterday because I derped and thought it was still 0.9.9.6.

Sharpshooter Technician is also great and probably my favorite build due to the max dmg/knockback but people seem to favor gun kata equally if not more. Your choice really, I don't think that one is better than the other. Just personal preference.

Also by making technician you do get to make a stormbolter pretty early on due to easy-mode whizkid.
MSs Technician is an unstoppable killing machine and never let anyone tell you otherwise. If you manage to create a storm bolter from a halfway decent base weapon (BLASTER!), you will blow everything to chunks with one burst, up to and including barons. You just need to position yourself correctly so the knockback doesn't knock them out of the line of fire. Most of the time I haven't had a problem with that even back in 0.9.9.6, but the way some people here talk about it, you'd think it is mathematically certain to happen whenever you press fire.

Storm bolter - dunno/
Storm Bolter is amazing if you're going for MSs. Even with a regular pistol as base, you'll be one-shotting most monsters and if you manage to apply it to a combat pistol or blaster, it just melts everything. If you're really fond of overkill, wait with completing the assembly until you have WK2 and then apply an additional power mod.

As for the knockback issue, just don't stand in a position where the knockback could push the enemy out of your line of fire. Ideally, you would want them in front of a wall or in a straight line ahead of you.

0.9.9.6 / [M|AoB|99%|YAFW] melee is op nerf plz

So yeah. My first win in 0.9.9.6 and it's not only a full win, it's a full win in one of the harder challenge modes. I had to take it careful on the first few levels, but once I got Berserker and the chainsaw at the same time, I was basically set. I think AoB should be downgraded from Very Hard, it does not deserve to be in the same category as AoMs and AoPc.

I avoided the Arena because I have no idea how to do it with a melee character and so I missed out on completing the Court. I actually left the four cacos there alive, otherwise this would have been a YAAM as well. I managed to complete a piercing chainsaw after the Armoury and after that, I basically one-shotted everything except bosses. After I got the Longinus (easiest AoD kill of my life), I one-shotted bosses as well.

I avoided the City of Skulls, not realizing that Vampyre makes it a cakewalk. I didn't avoid the Mortuary and actually came out with more health than I went in. I did use up three phase devices and one homing phase there, but only to get closer to the Viles. I also had a blood skull from one of the earlier floors, which was a great help.

Does the true final boss not summon Barons anymore? I basically walked up to him and hit him four times and that was it.

By the way, weren't there more two-mod armor assemblies before? I know some of the assemblies have been changed around, but were any removed?
