Post Mortem / [0.9.5a|UV|Sc|YAAM] Couldn't win UV with my fav Tech/SoG, so went for H/Sniper..
« on: November 25, 2020, 16:51 »
After I wiped my player data, I have to get to at least Corporal.
90% of my runs are non-angelic Tech on UV, and don't yield any new badges.
So, I tried something else. Suddenly, I won.
Building a Sniper was a challenge in a close-quarter maps, before I got to Toxic Caves. There, I found an ENV Helmet, and with its Darkvision and Heat Vision I never had to worry that there's something behind the next door! It's really awesome.
The armor I found there also had a great synergy with Sniper (don't remember what it was), but I decided to keep my better protected Combat armor.
7.62 sniper rifle is not that bad, when a Sniper extends its range. The ammo is abundant like dirt, you can open doors from a distance with it, and I was also lucky to kick an ADV2 variant out of some Exalted. I even dumped my .44 PAB rifle, though I did have 100 shots for it – I just found that I never switched to it. So I got a rocket launcher instead, to have more variety in my toolbox - for example, to smoke enemies out from behind corners.
Except for Toxic Caves, all good stuff I found was not from special levels or vaults, but was dropped by Exalteds. Well, I did get a couple of modpacks from vaults, but nothing Sniper specific.
Movement speed really helps. I need to remember to stick more A-mods on armor, even instead of a P-mod.

I built a Sharpshooter. I don't know how people play melee in JH.
Europa was really tough because I was stupid enough to only have a SMG of 9mm weapons. Surely, I lacked ammo BADLY, had to use a random rifle on each level.
I had a .44 SMG that I thought would take me out of dire situations! Well, it wasn't so good.
At Refueling Base, I thought that's the end, b/c by the end of it I only had the ammo for a 7.62 rifle - everything else was out of ammo. I also ate all three of my medpacks.
But I made it through, and got a Backpack - that was the only useful loot there.
Just what an Ao-not-so-LT needs.
Somehow I managed to make it to Io, where I happily grabbed a plasma pistol, and lived happily ever since.
Funny screenshot with exalted blessing attached.

I decided to try shotguns for a change. Felix on Steam forums is so fond of pistols, that I became curious - is everything else worse?
Well, not exactly.
I won on my first run. Only in the middle of it I found out how awesome Smoke Screen is with shotguns - you can shoot and they cannot. And shotguns DON'T MISS.
Did I say my visor had Heatvision, so I could see the enemies even in my smoke?
To have a way to deal with bots, I took my favorite secondary specialization - Remote Hack, and proceeded to Wizard.
I ditched the 3 EMP grenades I got in the beginning on Io 1, in favor of some energy cells for a new shiny shotty.
Summoning bots was unnecessary. Especially given how dumb they are (I submitted multiple bug reports).
Sometimes I forgot to spend my extra Energy and take bots with me to the elevator, but this didn't matter. It wouldn't even if I didn't summon them at all. All I needed is a free Smoke Screen, then shotgun everything in range, repeat.
I walked through the Limbo without a scratch.
"Vampiric 1" on the 1st shotgun made medkits mostly unnecessary as well.
In the ammo stations, I only produces krak grenades. Ended up bombing the Summoner with grenades (it took 5 of them, still had 3)... with a little help of the 4 bots that I spent my energy on. Still, you see how much spare stuff I had.
Time to switch to UW.

Starting from Io, it was like walk in a park. I one-shot mostly anything that I encountered with a revolver (if I felt pressured) or a 7.62 sidearm.
The only thing I was a tiny bit short on were multitools/armors.
I only had to use Smoke Screen three times: once when I opened a door to meet two exalted (I thought so?) Ravagers, one time to take out 4 turrets that you face at the same time in Black Site Vaults, and one other time. I mostly used energy for Dismantle, BECAUSE I HATE TO DROP MY GOOD STUFF! :D
Interestingly, I didn't have enough keycards to open one door in Black Site Vaults. Is it because I used one to disable CalSec?
I remember Kornel mentioned that there should be enough keycards to open everything. Did this mean "everything on a single chosen level"?
I'm quite sure I have cleared and searched every single level.

I like the analysis. It's well-structured.
I almost never played melee, so cannot speak of it, but I cannot see a statement I would immediately disagree with.
I also like the idea of optimizing for early game, because this is what people get first impression from. JH design should take this idea into account as well.

Forum / I think I see what's the problem with Honeypot
« on: May 30, 2020, 20:44 »
Periodically, when I try to post, Honeypot will reject the post because my cookie is too old (older than 3 days, I think?)
But the login form has an option to log in for a longer time. This effectively doesn't work, because forum thinks you're logged in, and Honeypot overrules it.
Can we either change Honeypot setting or remove the login option to log in for more than 3 days?
It's irritating as hell to try to post or to login and see "Please clear your computer of malware first".
