And what is wrong about removing Challenges? Sometimes, I want it. Sometimes, I don't.
First, I'm a skilled gamer. Not a pro, but skilled, naturally, without needing to train all day. But I have flaw, I fail to beat people that trains enough and I have specific kinds of game where I have more success than others (as is the case with most people I assume).
DoomRL is one of those I don't. Honestly I like the challenge here and there sometimes. Other time however, this is not what I want. I am also the kind of person to be rapidly frustrated with gaming. I know this and I stop playing when it gets on my nerve, which generally happens when I really "can't" do something. In a FPS, I would try again and would succeed at some point. But no matter how hard I tried here, I never succeeded.
Which brings me to the reason I cheat. If I just don't want to bother with the challenge, if I just want to have fun and be 100% sure the game will not frustrate me, I cheat. I have fun, yes sometimes less than actually completing a tough challenge, but I still have fun. And thats all I care about.
All games should have cheat, even for multiplayer LAN games (but of course not for multiplayer/recorded match, scoring, online leaderboards, anything like that). And thats why I think this game should have them as well. There is no reason to not give out more options like this or if there is, let me know.

Thanks a lot. Lack of cheats sincerely hurt this game. I will never understand not having the option to cheat in a game. So many games are so badly hurt because of this, its incredible how much things I'd do with cheats. Best games are those I can play around and do whatever I want the most.
Same thing than "you can't save in nightmare mode". Pointless, lack of options that hurt more than it helps. My opinions of course, but since both world can exist as much as anything else I don't get the problem.

I definitively think they should have some more randomness. After all, part of what makes this interesting is how things are never the same... but those level are.

Discussion / I've been gone for months - and no GRAPHICS?

I'm sorry if this is answered somewhere already, but my most recent post search gave me a post from 2006.
The only reasons I've been following this is for the Graphic version. I got tired of the game over time and never touched it again, not because it wasn't good, but ASCII style got on my nerve.
I'm amazed by now that there is no real graphics. There was a project before, the only forum I knew for that is unfortunately gone.
This is the only thing I'm waiting for, and I don't even know how long I've been waiting. I'm not trying to whine, I just want to know what happened to that... and if its still going to be done someday.

Variation to your concept : You can go on blood and "drink" it to heal you a very little bit. You can also go on corpse and drink all the blood they have over them, healing you more depending of the actual corpse.
But that makes you more like a vampire, seems odd to me :/.. and could get annoying.

Yes, I know about the Beta, although I am not really a "contributor", Kornel gave access to the Beta to a lot of people at first, you only had to ask. And I was one of them. I'm glad I can still look at the Beta!
Although I thank you for the information, I had enough time to visit everything and look at the different updates and stuff that was discussed here and there. Not all however, especially anything about Berserk and DiabloRL.
And I will personally only do a happy dance when the graphics will be part of DoomRL for good!

So Kornel already said the Unmaker was undoomish? .. and the spear is not, since its in the game?
Sorry but that must be most senseless thing I have heard. The spear is the most undoomish thing, not even related to Doom and looks more like a magical melee weapons taken out of a medieval games, even if that isn't where he took the idea.
This is just my opinion after all, but I don't understand how the spear made it in and not the unmaker.

It's been a while I did not pay a visit to this forums and... wow. What a change! It feels so... unfamiliar. It's sad, I miss the old dark/red colors...
So many things happened... Too bad I missed most of it for personal reasons and problems (big one, if your wondering) but meh...
I don't know if you guys remember me, but I remember some of you. I hope DoomRL is still alive like it never was, which seems to be true!

I think its nice to see comment towards DoomRL here and there, and I have yet to see a negative comments about it (at least, negative with proper arguments.
Still, I think the description is short and the game is worthy of much more than that :P Kornel will be happy to see it anyway.
