I wonder if i flinched or held the enter key too long when I was walking through the arena messages.  I would try to recreate, but i'm not sure how long it would take me to live through hells arena on UV again, not to mention timing my kills correctly to gain a level at the end.

No I have not.

It sounds I hit the default value in the case that the player is unable to chose a trait for some reason. 

Amazingly this has gone on to be one of my best UV games to date, even with a 'wasted' trait in there :)

On UV, the last baron I killed leveled me up.  I was not presented with the trait screen and instead got the hells arena finished message.  The Ironman trait was chosen automatically.

I tend to think a badge shouldn't be put into the game until at least 1 person has been able to do something.  That's because it would be very frustrating to try for an achievement that is actually impossible!

Modding / Zombies Ate My Neighbors Mod

I saw Thomas' idea to do this mod in the locked topic and I wanted to reply so here it is :)

I think the starting point for this mod would be really simple.  ZAMN is basically a roguelike already.  Here are my thoughts:

  • Music - The easiest part of DoomRL to change, the music also has the greatest impact, especially since we are using ascii for graphics.  If you were to replace the doom music with the ZAMN soundtrack and just play doomRL, it would already go a long way towards making you feel like you were playing zombies
  • Neighbors - Create a new 'unique' item called Cheerleader.  Put 10 in every level and make them destroyable by any projectiles passing through, as well as explosions from imps and cacodemons.  Figure out how to make the stairs only appear after all the cheerleaders are gone, and a way to keep track of the number still alive.  I've probably seen more uniques blown up than i've collected in doomRL, so this should be a good challenge.
  • Use nightmare mode to make everything respawn all the time :)

Bam!  You've got an early passable version of Zombies.  Going forward is more design than it is programming, assuming it's not too hard to add your own monsters and items.

No it's in 0.9.9.  I'll probably post this on the bug forums then, although I'm not sure it'll be much help.  I can't think of anything that would have caused it, as i was simply walking around when it happened.

No just the boots.  According to the wiki that message should only appear when you equip both.

I wore the gothic boots for a while and was walking around when I got this message.  I tried taking them off, then taking everything off, then dropping everything, then spamming the arrow keys (holding left for a minute or two).  Is this supposed to happen?

Ok, that makes sense.  I did check the wiki page for Trigun, but I misunderstood it to mean -5 current HP.  Sorry for the bad bug report!

While doing an angel of 100 run, i got an early trigun.  I figured whenever I found an invulnerability globe I'd nuke and descend (possibly nuking again).  After nuking i died very easily, and in my post mortem my health was -5/10.  It's possible you have to nuke more than once to get this to happen.
