After not getting anywhere close to winning in N! AoMC, I have decided to try something "easier" - UV AoSh. Dam, they always get me by CC, either barons gang up or Arena Master fries me. How do you people get Unchained Court done with AoSh? If I skip CC, things go decently well until Hell's Armory, where the shambler fries me as well, with double or tac, no matter.

According to the wiki, it's both.  (Or rather the player is slowed down, so the enemies seem faster in comparison)

I just realized that I forgot to include the video where I did just that!  :)

Basically, I got Intuition 2 first and then Hellrunner to help me keep ahead of Demons to maneuver them into corpse-stacking positions.  I also stocked up on as much ammo as I could carry, which is important, because this strategy calls for a lot of shooting into the shadows at things you can't see and even with AoMC, that means using a lot of ammo.  (EDIT:  Also, needless to say, you need to be *very* careful with each and every step that you don't step into view of any unknown enemies, because if it's a Cacodemon or Baron, they'll ruin your day)
Wow, I seem to be doing about right in my runs. I sometimes do win the arena, not yet pwn tho, well it will eventually happen I believe. Thanks :)

Also in that vid the player's speed w/o Hellrunner is still listed as 0.91s, as it is in UV and below for a scout, but enemies are clearly moving a lil faster.

Gonna visit some of them when I'll be back at unlimited Internet :)

In fact, I'm now aiming to do "easy N!" with AoMC, so my actual target is to do Hell Arena Pwnage badge - they say taste comes while eating, hum. If at all possible, maaybe I will be then trying wielding the Dragonslayer, although MCe route looks more easily reached. Also, what disadvantages N! puts to the player, is it 10% reduced speed (and is it 0.99 or 1.01?) or 10% extra speed for enemies (or is it 50% as I've read elsewhere)?

Finally tried a lil of N! Geez, that is one whole different world, with quite different emphasis. Even with "easy mode" of AoMC and MCe N! continuously brings me my head in a pocket. I can't even... Probably I should use demons with AoMC on Hell Arena to cover up and bury them caco corpses... I always get someone of them rez just at the wrong time... and maybe get less shells and more bullets... how do you people get N! arena done? I managed to "complete" it once, getting rewards, but was waaay away from Pwnage Badge, which seems to actually be in range for my skills. How do you do corpse blowing-up, if actually you do?

50
Yep, but I still wouldn't call this "easy mode", while it eases some aspects, it makes stair traps a lot harder. Unless you can plain wipe them with a single shot. I recall arriving at lv3 to see two packs of imps and formers in close vicinity, and a couple barrels too. I did one step and wiped the floor with dead imps with a single shotgun shell. The second pack was farther away, and I managed to escape out of their sight before they woke up, or else they would blast the barrel right at my backside. XD

Boy how does AoMC make everything easier! First I ran a HNTR run with these settings, even managed a YAFW by nuking JC, but it seems my Doomguy is kinda bloothirsty, so I went onward to UV. Lost once in CC due to two barons coming at me at once, and me failing to grab a zerk to get protection (it doesn't heal you but it still makes you resistant), then rolled an amazingly good set of enemies on lv2, and overall a HUGE amount of rare stuff helpful everywhere, Literally made me sort of cakewalk the entire game, once I landed the MCe. Sadly, no phases in Phobos so I had to tackle Anomaly with a rocketjump - this time forward, anyway those medkits and globes are of zero help on AoMs, landed just outside the wall, so was safe from direct shooting, and picked all of stuff then both bruisers from pretty much afar. Either Hell's Armory or a vault in Phobos provided me wih a duelist armor, which got modded into APT eventually and kept until the end, Armory dropped me a plasma schematic (OW, should have tried better to assemble it earlier!) and a nano pack (really a gift from God! This spells "HELL, NOW YOU WILL GET LOOSE!" harder than any BFG!), which, with a single level of Whizkid I managed to scrounge back then (I still wanted HR/HR/DM before Cybie) rested on a plasma rifle with two bulk packs.

The Hell went quite smoothly. With gained WK2 I've built me a tac/A boots, a duelist armor with A and with two levels of Hellrunner I was moving at incredible 0.33s/step, I even had to hold my steps for UC to let CHARGING LOST SOULS catch up to me to whack them one at a time! Let alone them demons. I have decided to prepare a B-modded knife just for the whacks in UC, that thing really helped in making bigger holes in Angel of Death, I didn't even break sweat throwing those knives. One nice thing, AoD dies before your missile lands to the floor, so if you use a modded knife to finish him, you'll retain it. So I kept the Scythe, just in case - don't recall swinging it tho. The Vaults awarded me with Enviroboots - YAAAAY, no need to use envirosuits and sweating in Lava Pits that you might miss that carriable invulnerability! The Mortuary - I went in with a P-modded BFG, a B2N1 plasmagun and a ton of cells from previous arachnotron cave, and went left as there were visible viles. Cleared there, blasting several hundred power cells down the drain, then cautiously proceeded right, picking out any stragglers with plasma gun and whacking them en masse with BFG. Ran out of cells there, but not before picking a nuke-BFG AND wrecking all viles, so went with plasma, also picking last B-pack to make a nanomanufacture plasmagun. Hell level 7 had a Baron don a Medical Powerarmor, nearly bashed it into pieces before that brute went down, and Deimos level 7 had me a GCB - a ridiculous AoMC whacking gun, esp if you'd decide to invest in SoG. So I've tried to get Grammaton Cleric Cross, and succeed in a very weird manner - GCB was in my offhand, still I've got it awarded.

I wonder tho, should I have tried nuking the Mastermind with GCB in hand to get that cross, then whack JC (I believe I'd easily put him out of misery, esp with Azrael's in hand and Angelic on top - 4 hits and he'd be history) to have a full win, or would it not grant me that medal?

And finally, got Conqueror despite not getting that backpack, but really killing everything else on the level. You can see it spells in mortem "he fled Containment Area". I really don't like the trap in there, on UV it has about 8 barons and an archvile, and without a phase or another means of getting away (I dropped the combat translocator in favor for more ammo for chaingun, and didn't get phases until next level) I would likely get toasted. But the game said I completed it, and awarded me a conqueror badge. :D

52
How to do that without MSs? Easy, just take a Int-Int then radar shoot. Sure enough you would need 3xSoG with AoMr first, and a lucky enough level 2 so you could have a chance to grow up for that Int-Int.

Also, why no Dualgunner - taking 3xSoG and 2xSoB starts to knock em back, so I though taking DG would be making me lose too much ammo. Also, pairing a single pistol with an ammo chain has a good benefit to allow me fast reloads, and DG is wasted on such a setup. But maybe I was really lucky that day, to not need DG against anything.

About speed... OH YES, here comes the night train... and here it goes away without you being able to hit it XDDDDD

Great minds think alike I think... hum. Grats, AoP is something I haven't yet tried. But, if it can be paired with AoMC... let them eat cake!

54
Wow what a mortem. There apparently was no Hellrunner in .1, right? .... oh you took a HR level after all... maybe there was no DM? That thing is underrated vs many monsters, except for hardcore gamers like you ;)

Frankly, I really need EE or other means of augmenting my precision. I seem to forget that pistols have aimed shot as alt-fire, I had to reread half this forum to recall they do. XD

55
Wow. UV AoMr full win, with no combat pistol, no Sharpshooter and no master trait either? That's some good stuff.
Initially I aimed for MCe build, but then found out I badly need them HR/DM, then I felt the need for EE, then lv12 hit and I went for more SoG, and boom, game ended. Maybe I'm too fond of DM to consider not taking it, unless for melee, and fighting Cybie ranged literally spells DM for me, as I would otherwise have to tank waaay too many rockets.

Why not MSs? I was very fond of MCe with a pistol, but MCe is not for pistols early, TH spells chainguns and stuff. It appears even an UV game doesn't let you get enough levels to get MCe and high SoG. Maybe I could get some if I'd clear CC then Vaults, as I missed both of them obviously, but I was afraid to go with just SoG3 and Int vs them barons, and without means for corpse removal this would mean serious troubles vs Arena Master later, if I'd wreck them. So, I left them alone. Obvious other misses were Skulls/Planes, either place is not for pistols, The Wall/Containment as I had no phases, and frankly I'm not fond of jumping into a huge Baron crossfire anyway, UC as it's melee only, also I went to skip Spider Lair trying to not mes up a good run, and the BFG is of no help for AoMr. Lava Pits? Maybe, but elemental heals, and running after him across lava asks for good boots. And there was no Military Base. So nowhere to get much xp.

« on: August 24, 2018, 21:45 »
They're not immune.  They just have a lot of hp, so it takes them a *long* time to die.

Oh, hey!  That's not a bad idea!  Rocket jump to the left from the last square of acid so you avoid having the Sergeants knock you back into the acid.  The envirosuit provides fire protection, so you'll take less damage from the rocket jump!  (And if you're playing AoHu, you'll have red armour which will provide additional fire protection and make it perfectly survivable)
Ohh, perhaps I've forgot that bit. This makes it a lil easier to plan vs N! UC... and allows trying N! lab in fact.

Frankly I was thinking about rocketjumping back into the acid right after triggering the trap, then using second envirosuit to avoid stupid death, and there's a chance you land on a square where shotgunners were, so you won't even get harmed by the acid, then pick at demons with shotgun from the distance, then whack the shotgunners.

Thanks people... probably building a cerberus armor has a use if your build gives protection otherwise - MMB, most likely. MEn is kinda meh for me. Am I right that you don't actually care what armor you use to build a cerberus, except for set bonuses (say phaseshift would still give lava immunity with boots on)? Also, P or A on top of it? (Or B, maybe?)

Another question - trying to play AoD, discovered that you don't see the map even if you get a computer map. Owww. Any better start with this than Int-Int? And what locations to carefully avoid? (Learned the hard way I should have avoided Deimos Lab, as the only reasonable build with AoD is shotgun)

58
After a successful Ao100 run with pistols I have decided to start tackling weapon challenges. Of course, started with AoMr, as I've got quite some experience with them pistols. First run went decent up to somewhere like lv14, with a P-modded combat pistol, and then all of a sudden I've got killed, cornered or something. That hurt! Several more tries, and I have done it with a blaze.

I wonder if I should have used Fin-Fin-WK instead of both spending levels to Int-Int and SoB-SoB. But as I have managed to find in Ao100, knockback rules, but you need to hit stuff to protect yourself with knockback. So I ended up with a starting P-modded pistol (with a backup of B-modded "really starting" pistol hanging in there in case this one would overheat or something), an ammo chain, and a powered red armor fresh from Hell's Armory. Lucky find I say, beats combat pistol in usefulness. You WILL get hit in Hell, regardless of what you do, except for maybe 2Dev or who won N! damageless. And there, weapons matter little, armor matters a lot.

One good thing I had is jump at Mortuary with a homie and about 20 turns of invulnerability, that was even enough to wreck a couple of viles that went right after me - two or three, still once anything fatter started appearing, I went outside. That device allowed me to tackle JC - and with an ordinary pistol, and without sufficient back-up, this was quite an ordeal. Good thing that if you shoot at 0.2s, the armor starts to repair itself before you get hit again, so it lasted me the whole battle. Also a nice thing that I've stumbled on a very lucky ammo chain in Hell lv7, where I first decided to bail out due to lack of ammo, but then seeing a chaingunner (YAY!) revived my hopes to clear the level - still something hid out of my sight. Oh well.

Oh yep, I've got Arena Gold with this run - me VERY happy. Really, people, how to fight on the Arena damageless at all? I only managed this feat once, and with a combat shotgun from a lucky lv2 vault.

And finally. At this particular moment in time, I don't believe I have a healthier or more deeply-felt respect for any object in the universe than this here pistol. Not even to a nuke-BFG.

I don't understand those AoPc games. You dodge! :D That's all about them here IMHO.

Grats, AA of any kind is an achievement. I wonder tho, how often does one get killed in an AoPc game? 90%?

One bad thing is that when trap triggers, your envirosuit gets disabled at once, and there are too many demons to tackle on such small ground even with them getting hurt in acid, which nightmare demons are immune to, anyway. I'm thinking about a rocket jump out of that trap back into the nukage THEN use an envirosuit. I wonder though, how can an AoHu pass there... he'd get blown up with plain shotguns as they see you in an instant.
