...is it meant to make plasma weapons do bullet damage?

I had a fight with a baron that ended after it had soaked approximately 70d9+350 damage from a burst laser rifle, and it dropped a ballistic shield (7%). The only conclusion I can make is that the assembly changes the damage type to bullet.

More of a pointing-out thing than a complaining-thing, since burst laser rifle is hax anyway, especially with F-mod and mAC.

yep, actually the renewed wiki page states its type as bullet. It means though, that you have hit that baron 50 timers normally, halving the shield and its resistances, then finally dealing a little more than 1 damage per hit, and he probably used a medpak in between, otherwise the armor should get dropped being worn down to ~30%.

I recall me playing 0.9.9.5 AoMr and fighting a hell knight with 2x2d4+3 speedloaders, that knight soaked a helluva bullets, and dropped me a "gothic armor" at 150%. Grrr.

Damage type for burst cannon doesn't change when you assemble it. The wiki editor probably missed it because it's not a typical thing to edit (ie, should be changed to "Original"). Laser rifles apparently deal bullet damage, which I think I will change for the next release.
