Title: [Fixed][0.9.9.6] The dropped item melts! There is a Hell Staff here.

The result of dropping the Hell Staff in lava.

'Oh, the player dropped an item on a hurtfloor. Destroy it!'

'Wait, it's unique, never mind!'

Same here. Exept that I had dropped just a phase device, so the damage done wasn't really serious.
The lol is, that it WAS possible to drop the item on a normal floor(I was staying on another item so dropping it under my legs was impossible) - but nope.avi, it HAD to choose the ONLY one lava square that was adjacent to me and drop the device there!
The dropping fucntion should avoid dropping items in lava/acid, and, if impossible, ask the player for confirmation.

Doom RL 0.9.9.6 tiles fullscreen, ran on Windows XP SP2

(yeah, melting dropped items sucks)

Er, perhaps I wasn't clear...

That's the Hell Staff beneath the doomguy, there...

Unique Items (or at least one of them) are throwing the 'melts' message, but don't actually melt.

Just checked, and it's any unique item that's dropped on acid/lava.

Yeah, I understood that. I just jumped at the opportunity to hijack this thread for bitching about accidentally melting useful items.

Well, thats certainly not a big bug, but looks ugly.

The other message would be better, eg:
"The * glows from the high temperature!"

And then you won't be able to pick the item again without fireproof gauntlets (or at least high fire resistance) ;).

I don't think that's such a hot idea. (pun intended, though I'm ashamed of myself)

At least I would think that it means something important and try to to figure it out/maybe drop some other items into lava to test it etc.

Oh, I accidently dropped my unique, must pick it up back... it's good that I got my onyx gauntlets!
...wait a sec...

This has been fixed in the repo: unique items now display the typical item drop message when they fall into normally-melting hazards.
