Title: Ironman/Berserker Interaction
Post by: Ander Hammer on April 20, 2012, 15:43
Currently, it seems that Berserker activates when you're damaged for a certain percent of your health rather than a certain amount of health.

Therefore, berserkers do not want to take Ironman.

Discussions of melee power balance aside, this feels kind of silly and unintuitive. Why would being able to take more hurt reduce your ability to go berserk when a rocket hits you? Why would taking a trait actively penalize another one like this?

You don't go berserk when mosquito bites you.And that how rockets feel with Iro.
And there are at least two kinds of berserkers. One kind takes Ber to trigger berserk through melee hits, while others have Berserker mostly for defense and as a backup plan.

Btw certain percent is 33.

Berserker procs when you take 33% damage off base health, I believe - i.e. not factoring in Ironman, but I'm not sure if the Marine bonus is factored in.

Doesn't Berserk also get triggered by certain amounts of damage dealt? That still remains, of course.

Yes, it does, that's the point of discussion. If damage before applying resistances and armor is more than 10 and at least 1/3 of your max berserk will trigger.

No, I mean the damage Doomguy deals.

Only from consecutive hits i think.

Wiki says:

Each successful melee hit adds to a berserk "counter". When the counter reaches four (or less, if there are other monsters within your vision) then you will gain 20 actions' worth of the berserk effect.

Don't think that's entirely correct though since this would mean a lot more zerk time in melee only games. It seemed fewer at least.

The more turns you have left in berserk the less you gain this way.

How so? If after every four melee hits the 20-turn zerk counter gets reset, all you have to do is keep hitting enemies; levels like the Mortuary or City of Skulls would see no end to your rampage, even without taking damage (think about what this means for MBM, when getting four hits in doesn't take up any time).

I believe the berserk counter stops building up from berserker at 100 actions.  This only applies to gaining berserk via the trait.
